Guest guest
I have been reading the posts for awhile now and identify with each at some level. I had to place my mother in a nursing facility last week. She had been hopsitalized three times in recent months and my father could no longer care for her. She wandered all night long and he couldn't sleep and during the day she would leave the house if he tried to catch a nap. She has vivid halucinations and visions of non- existing people and animals. At times she can realize they are not a threat and other times she is scared to death. I can talk with her about them not being real and only in her mind and she agrees but is frightened just the same. Nights are the worst. She was diagnosed years ago with PD, without any method of test or exam. We walked into the office of the neurologist and he said you have PD. Her PD symptoms were never very pronounced. Her memory and thought processes were effected and it gradually got worse until about 4 mo ago with she spiraled downhill with her symptoms. We visited a geriatric psychologist and after an hour she suggested MRI and CAT scan for diagnosis. He took her off all her PD meds and her physical symtoms did not change. Her mental capacity continued to deline and that is when the hospitalizations began. It is a living hell. Initally I too thought I was over reacting. In the nursing home she is surrounded by people which is great. My dad suffers from his loss. They have been married 56 years and never separated. I can now devote time to attending to him and know that she is safe and cared for and we can visit everyday. A place I never thought I would be. Thanks to everyone for sharing so that I can learn.
