We saw the same rash around mouth and on cheeks when starting Acyclovir. Almost like little pocks that popped up out of nowhere. I do believe it was from the med. and not from yeast. When we increased the dose, chicken skin/bumpy all over his thighs for about a full week and a few more spots on his face.

Progress so far with Acyclovir suppositories

Hi!Just wanted to check in and give you all an update on my son. He has been on Diflucan since the end of January (and we are still on it) and now he has been taking Acyclovir compounded into suppositories (OUCH!...I know, but he won't cooperate otherwise and now I know that he gets his whole dose every day)for a little over two weeks. We are seeing new words here and there and they are used appropriately for the situation. He has still been very aggressive when he doesn't get his way. For example, I had to physically carry him out to the car kicking and screaming this morning because he didn't want to go to school. Once at school, the teacher reported that he had a good day. Tonight my husband noticed that our son had a rash on his cheeks and around his mouth. Our son also felt a little warm. This is confirmation enough to know that the Acyclovir is working. I have also read in several posts that the rash on the cheeks and around the mouth can indicate yeast. Since we are already on Diflucan, would we need to possibly increase the dosage or do you think that it is time to rotate in a different antifungal?Thanks,

Were there any gains that came along with the rashes? It seems like

right now my son is coming out and saying words that we never heard

before and (this is going to sound weird) is starting to become

better about eating food. For example, he always insisted that I cut

up his pizza into smaller bites (like you would do for a toddler).

Tonight, when we had pizza, he insisted on me not cutting anything

up. He wanted to eat that pizza the way big boys eat it. His appetite

is through the roof as well. Must be in a growth spurt along with his

gains in language.

WOW, YES! Not the language part for us (apraxia) but I JUST said to

my husband yesterday that our son is eating better lately. So much

less desire for junkie type food and coming to the table to eat table

food, eating up his whole meal, holding the spoon himself with no

fussing (WOW for us), taking a bite of a hot dog instead of whining

until I cut it into bitty pieces and put them on a fork! Actually

seems to prefer healthy food and his trips to the " snack closet " have

decreased by like 75%!

That is too funny! Same thing is happening here. He is refusing

cookies!!! He is eating oranges. He is just into trying everything

and doing things by himself and eating healthy.

Question for you, my son has not been diagnosed with apraxia. Did a

speech pathologist diagnose that? My son has been working with a

speech pathologist for two years now in Early Childhood class. The

word " apraxia " has never come up. With apraxia, does your son have

problems with how the tongue should be positioned in his mouth to

make sounds? Or am I waaay off. Please excuse my igorance.

I am "new" to apraxia also. My son's speech therapist just told me two weeks ago that she now thinks he is apraxic. Being that she was on the fence about it the last two years, saying he probably wasn't, I didn't do much research on it. But from what I've learned recently, yes tongue movement is a problem. My son cannot stick out his tongue, blow bubbles, whistles or anything at all, smile on command, imitate faces, etc. These skills are a precursor to imitating sounds, I think... still learning.

I have been on a yahoo board called childrensapraxianet and have been speaking to a doctor on that board who saw huge gains in her own sign from high doses of omega 3,6,9 (nordic naturals capsules) and natural Vitamin E. I ordered my supplements and began yesterday. Today, he had a fabulous day.
