My allergies are out of control! But , unlike me, doesn't seem to

have any other " stuff " coming out of his nose. His eyes are not red and

watery. Could an allergy cause a nose bleed without other signs?

Nose bleeds can be caused by dry, conditioned air. Air units remove moisture or

humidity from the atmosphere. It might be a good idea to keep a pan of water

lightly steaming on the stove every so often as it will add moisture to the air,

or check into a reasonably priced humidifier.

If nasal things get severe try fogging up the bathroom to create a cheap steam

room. Our son got stuffiness or congested once and an RN near us suggested it to

open up his nasal passages. It really worked at re-hydrating his sinuses. I've

talked to doctors that suggest wiping down the upper lip with a wet paper towel

in heavy pollen times.

Another good idea is to keep in mind that a runny nose actually serves as part

of the bodies immune response by flushing or rinsing foreign substances, pollen,

mold, etc to the outside. If the nose has to run continually to stay " wet "

versus a very dry environment there might be a time when the nose spigot is dry

at the wrong time. A dry nose will not capture foreign elements floating in on

the air as well as a " wet " one will. For this reason it's very important to stay

hydrated in winter months and early spring.

Naturally fingers do not belong inserted in the nose. Long, sharp fingernails

cause nose bleeds in children because they do pick their noses. You should try

to keep the fingernails trimmed and discourage fingers from the nose. The same

applies to the ears. It's also best to use the right tool for the right job and

don't probe into the ear canal.

Also if it applies, be sure to change the air conditioner filter once a month,

and when you change it out have beside you a plastic bag large enough to discard

the filter in right away. There are thousands and thousands of cubic feet of air

cycled through the air handler filter every day. As the filter traps things it

" blinds " some reducing it's porousness making it work better as it is able to

catch smaller partials. Low air circulation usually means that the filter is

fully blinded. Most pleated filters catch quite a bit so consider it to be

pretty filthy and also assume it to be germ contaminated for all practical

purposes. Use disposable rubber gloves when changing it out, or at least

remember to really wash your face and hands afterward. Some also use a dust mask

as well. You don't need a haz-mat suit and SCBA gear, but everything you do to

minimize redistributing captured materials helps keep the air clean in the

house.

My son has been coming home with blood crusted in a nostril for the last

couple days. His Vitamin A dose has not been changed in months and is 10,000.

He is on his OFF days in between rounds of DMPS chelation. I could try reducing

his Vit A to 5,000 and see if the nose bleeds stop. We are due to start another

chelation round now. Any other nose bleed theories out there?

When I was little I had a lot of nose bleeds and they wanted to

cauterize (sp?) my nose. A nurse told me to just put vasoline up my nose

which I did and it worked. My nose bleeds were caused from a very dry

and easily cracked nose. It might be the same for your son. Jerri
