Guest guest
Ellen, I have not had any side effects from the patch - just start out small, and work your way up to one that works best for you~ Whatever you & your doctor decide. Guest guest
OK, I keep reading about this pain patch and I have questions. The most important of which is do you feel drugged? I work on my feet as a cashier; I'll take a vicodon and an ibuprofen 800 before I go into work. I'm talkative (that's for sure) but I feel little to no pain, get my job done usually no more than 5 hours or as little as 3 hours and until I sit down no one knows I'm taking anything. Once I sit I'll actually fall asleep, completely unaware that I'm doing it. So again, does the pain patch have the same effect or do you get completely loopy with it? Take care and be well. Guest guest
Ellen, I'm only speaking for myself but I rarely feel looped no matter what I take or am given, all the way up to Dilaudid while in the resort. I do agree with being totally exhausted though, as I would pass out while reading the paper, going to the bathroom (ever sleep sitting on a toilet before????) and at various other times, even though I didn't " feel " tired. Guest guest
I have just spent the past four days on high doses of vicodon and ibuprofen 800. I finally had a day off where I didn't need to take anything since I was taking it easy and for the first time ever I actually had a feeling of withdrawel. Extremely unusual for me to have that. Would the patch be the same thing? Use it only when I needed it and leave it in the cupboard if I don't? Is there an addictive property to it? I realize I need to speak with the doc about it but I don't see him again until August; besides he's 1 1/2 hour drive, long distance phone call, you get the idea. Take care and be well. Guest guest
Ellen, yes the patch can be addictive, as with any narcotic based medicine. You have to weigh the benefit you get from it Vs. the pain you're in without it. If you're being honest with yourself, I don't think you have too much to fear, as your pain doc will want to gradually reduce it anyway over time. I had a similar fear before my morphine pump implant, but no longer have that fear as that pump literally took me out of a wheelchair and made me a whole lot more mobile. I still have breakthrough pain and use the medication accordingly. I would say that as long as you need it, use it! No sense laying around in agony. Guest guest
Kirk: I appreciate the quick response, thank you. And you're right, honesty, especially with this kind of medication, is paramount. I'm controlled by small doses of the pills I take so I'm going to gather I'm not a candidate for the patch. Much like not being a candidate for Humira or any of those other drugs; it seems I've fallen into the cracks. On one hand I'm grateful for the minimal pain I have, on the other hand it's rather annoying that nothing more can be done for me. I'm glad you're no longer in a wheelchair. You should live and be well and never go back to that state again. Now, get some rest and keep smiling. Take care and be well.
