Kath,

The nursing home is in Dallas Texas and is called C.C. Young. It is

associated with the Methodist Church. Fortunately, it is just 1.5

miles from our house.

I've read a couple of places that the nursing homes/assisted living

places run by religious groups are better than the 'public' ones.

I know if I had the choice I'd pick one run by the Amish or the

Mennonites(SP). The one in the MD/PA area have a great reputation.

Anyone else heard anything like that?

Hi THeresa,

The NHs operated by churches in our area seem to be regarded as some

of the best, but also the most expensive and some were exclusive -

only for their denomination. Unfortunately, we tried a NH that we

thought was Methodist, only to find out after that it 'was', and it

still had a couple ministers sitting on the board, but in reality had

been turned into a corporation and was very budget conscious, short

staffed, etc. Their literature said 'Eden Alternative' which should

have indicated dementia trained staff, but unfortunately they were

not.

I agree about the Amish and Mennonites. We have a very nice Mennonite

community in our county, and they were the first people I contacted

when looking for home help for my mom. Unfortunately, none of the

Mennonites in our area work in the caregiving field.
