Hello all,

I'm relatively new to the group but have just lurked. I joined for several

reasons. I suspect my mom ( & possibly her twin) is in the early stages of

dementia, & I suspect LBD. Of course I can't get either of them to the MD and I

live close to 2 thousand miles away. The second is I'm involved with patients

with dementia and their families at the hospital where I work, several have been

LBD.

If your dad is having difficulty with his swallow I highly suggest you get him

tested via a swallow evaluation to see if he is aspirating the food. There may

or may not be exercises he could do since he in the late stages, but you may be

able to learn some techniques that may lessen the risk of your dad aspirating.

Please let us know how he does.

I also want to thank you all for sharing your lives so freely for those of us

who are still learning.

Subject: swallowing

Hi,

I'm new to the group and grateful it exists! My dad suffers from

LBD -- relatively advanced. My mom is a full-time caregiver.

She recently told me my dad is keeping food in his mouth after meals

and doesn't realize it. He forgets to swallow and can keep a little

bit of food in his mouth for hours. Of course - we're worried about

the choking hazards of this.

She's checking his mouth now after every meal, but she's worried

that's not enough to prevent him choking. Does anyone else in the

group have other tips or things to try/consider?
