Abby,

My friend said that he will never regain vision in the one eye, and

'if' full sight is restored in the other eye they said it would be

gradual, over several weeks. So, it sounds much more likely to be LBD

playing it's tricks, or with that much bruising, I wonder if swelling

could have caused a temporary problem.

Jan, there is a lot to be said for your 'selective response' theory.

There were definitely things that my mom seemed to focus in on more

than others (certain verbal phrases, music, scents...). I remember

times when she would appear to be deep in a trance. I would chat away

for quite some time about anything and everything with absolutely no

indication that she heard a word I said. Then I would say something

very meaningful like 'you were such a great roll model for your kids',

and she would come out of the depths of where ever she was long enough

to smile and say 'thank you'. Other non-responsive times, long after

she no longer knew her kids names, I could play a CD and

she would say " Oh.. sweet baby " . Mom also had a favorite spice

cookie (cinnamon, ginger,..) that really seemed to wake her senses a

bit.
