Guest guest
Hi - I am new to this group, but not new to biomedical interventions for autism. We have followed the DAN protocol strictly for two years. Unfortunately we haven't seen the results we hoped for. For our son, age 3-4 was the worst despite the many interventions we tried. At 4 we got him into a great ABA school and things began to almost immediately turn around. The behaviours deminished, the receptive language increased and some expressive words started. We decided to take a break from all biomedical in October and again we continued to see him progress with ABA alone. In the past month we have a dysbiosis test done and his yeast/candidias was sky high. Our DAN wanted to use grapefruit seed extract. I asked instead for diflucan after reading Dr. G's protocol. It seems the diflucan has helped. He is alot calmer and more focused and his language is again getting better. I am now faced with the difficult decision. Do I start the protocol? My son is 5 and his fundamental problem is auditory processing. He does not comprehend complex language and has a vocubalary of mostly single words. Everyone who has ever worked with him has commented on how smart he is. He is capable of greatness. We started the DAN protocol because he had chronic diaharria after the MMR and was regressive in the development of his symptoms. What I am really struggling with is whether I should continue to let the ABA do its job or should I start the protocol. It is a hard decision because he is improving, although slowly and he is still far from age appropriate. My goal for him is recovery and I know he is capable of it. He just needs to get the processing and language in order. I know he has some GI issues but I'm down on DAN and apprehensive about starting another protocol. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I would gladly do the protocol if I thought it would help. I don't want to leave any stone unturned here. Thanks,

Aside from the money aspect, this really shouldn't be an either or situation. Ideally, all kids should be receiving therapy and intensive work to build/rebuild skills while their bodies are being healed. You mentioned auditory processing as well as limited expressive language as your son's main issues. While every child is different, one of the main areas my son progressed in after starting on was auditory processing and complex thinking skills. He was somewhat conversational when he started but the protocol has helped him be able to follow, and therefore more actively join in, longer and more complex conversations. If you haven't already done so, you might also want to look into one of the auditory training programs. We found The Listening Program to be extremely helpful with auditory processing and expanding his expressive language. The computer programs Earobics and Brainbuilder were also helpful. Guest guest
Have you conducted any other tests beside Candida? You may need to check if there is a viral count within abnormal limits. Check out the neuroimmunedr.com for appropriate blood tests to see exactly what type of medical condition your child suffers from. Not all children have viruses, but more do than not. Guest guest
We saw the greatest improvement in auditory processing after about 1- 2 months on Diflucan. We also saw improvement in diarrhea after adding Kyodophilous along with Diflucan. I am guesing adding back the healthy flora along with attacking the yeast is what my son needed. hth > Hi - > > I am new to this group, but not new to biomedical interventions for autism. > We have followed the DAN protocol strictly for two years. Guest guest
Do you feel like his intestines are in good shape--no pain, constipation, or diarrhea? My son was diagnosed with Lymphoid nodular hyperplasia last fall, and since we started treating him with anti-inflammatories (Pentasa), he's improved dramatically.
