Guest guest
Hi All, I was just wondering if any of the Still's support group members ever had severe swelling of the calves, ankles, and feet for no apparent reasoning. The doctor's have done extensive testing to rule out all other problems, and have left me with one answer. It must be a strange and unusual symptom of the Still's. Like having something unusual is anything new to me. I just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem also. Thanks for always listening and answering. I just joined and have already learned so much, it helps make the disease seem not so unusual afterall. dahtdah_denise

Guest guest
, I have had alot of ankle and leg swelling. I am taking water pills to help get rid of excess fluid. I know that steriods can cause fluid retention. One thing that helps to decrease fluid retention is a no salt or a no added salt diet. Sodium also can cause fluid retention. I hope this helps. Guest guest
I need to buy new shoes but keep telling myself I need to wait until the swelling goes down. But I'm beginning to think that if I keep waiting for the swelling to go down, I may wear holes in my current shoes. My feet make me laugh. They look like big balloons with teeny tiny toes sticking out. Reminds me when you blow up surgical gloves and the fingers look so tiny. Feel good everyone. Guest guest
Danni, Thanks for answering. I also wanted to know if your doctors could determine the cause of the swelling. I too take two different water pills every morning and evening, Dyrium and Bumex. The problem I have now is that the swelling is under control to an extent, but I can't maintain any level of Potassium in my bloodstream. My doctor attributes this to the Still's disease effects on the liver. Is this the same with you? I have to take 40MEQ's of Klor-Con three times a day, with no end in sight as well as bi-monthly blood tests to check my potassium levels. Mine have gone down to precarious levels, enough that I have been hospitalized twice for two weeks because of it. I hope you have it a little easier. thanks for responding,
Guest guest
, I don't know if mine is classified as sever, but I do have pretty swollen feet most days - I can't fit into most of my shoes any longer. I think it's fairly common that we swell up for no reason - but it's always best to check with your doctor to confirm. Good luck with Wallace - let us know how it goes!
