Hi Randi,

I was on Imuran (azathioprine) for several years. It is an antimetabolite,

and is not given by IV. My initial complaint with Imuran was nausea, but that

subsided with time. It caused immunosuppression, so I was slow to heal from

infections. It kept me stabilized, somewhat, for years. I was weaned off it

after starting Enbrel.

Rituxan is an anti-TNF medication given via IV.

Make sure your physician takes time to discuss your medications. Ask how the

medication works, what side effects you may expect, precautions to take, and

what supplements are required. As with any medication, routine blood tests are

necessary.

In each case, the risks need to be weighed with the benefits. I hope you are

feeling better soon!

In Peace,

Barbara Gardner
