Guest guest
Hi At first I have to felicity you for your pregnancy! Congratulations! I hope that everything is okay with you and your baby! I believe that everything is gone be ok! I'm 28 and I would like to get pregnant too but now is impossible because I'm on MTX. I've to wait 1 year or two. My doctor tells me that if get pregnant while I'm on pred there is no problem, especially in a low dosage as you are (5 mg). So, I think there is no problem. Guest guest
Malayvanh Depending on how long you've been on prednisone, you will probably want to start it again for your C-Section since that is considered major surgery. Otherwise you risk an adrenal crisis. That is if you've been on prednisone a lengthy amount of time. Prednisone suppresses the adrenal glands and after being on it, if one becomes sick or has surgery or is stressed in any way, they need to get back on the prednisone to avoid this. Obviously check with your doctor about this and don't ever treat yourself without first discussing things. I hope your pregnancy goes well. Guest guest
Malayvanh, I just gave birth two months ago and I was on 5mg Prednisone throughout the whole pregnancy. My rheumy wanted me to see a high risk OB so I did. The OB watched me really carefully to make sure the baby was ok. I had a lot of ultrasounds to make sure she was growing because they said Prednisone can cause IUGR (Intra Uterine Growth Retardation). It sounds worse that it is. That just means the fetus grows slower than expected. They said I did have IUGR at the end and induced me about one week early, but my baby was perfectly healthy, just a little small. I'm not convinced she would have been any bigger had I not been on Prednisone. My husband and I were both pretty small at birth. My OB actually didn't want me trying to taper off the Prednisone while pregnant. I think he was worried about a flare and decided that would be more dangerous than the Prednisone. Well, that was my experience. Good luck to you and let me know if you have any other questions. Carly --- MALAYVANH REDMOND wrote: > Hi everyone. Guest guest
Malayvanh, I don't write often. But, this one I know a little bit about... My son is now 6 months old and he is healthy. I was on 10mg prednisone when I got pregnant. I had a flare during pregnancy and my pred was bumped up to 20 mg where it stayed for the duration of my pregnancy. I also saw a high risk ob so they were " onthe case " but my regular ob felt confident with taking care of me. I went for aLOT of sonagrams and nonstress tests. They were looking for my son's sholders to become too big steriods can sometimes cause that But, he was born at 37 weeks 8lbs. 1oz. Good Luck and Congratulations!! --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Hi Malayvanh, My is and was diagnosed with Still's after my boys where born. However, when I was trying to convieve and maintain a pregnancy, I could not. This was Still's before we knew what to call it. I had 5 miscarriages prior to having my first son and one the med's that they put me on was Prednosine, 60 mgs for the first 6 months, after that, they lowered it to 40mg and slowly to none approxiamtely 2 weeks prior to delivery, also by C-section. My sons are perfectly healthy, as far as I can tell, with no side effects. I was willing to try anything that would not jepordize my children's lives to stay pregnant. It worked. My fertility specialist assured us that there would be not problems, and so far he seems right. The boys are 10 and 6 years old now and very healthly. I hope this helps, dahtdah_denise
