Augmentin is a really strong antibiotic. To be honest I feel Augmentin played a part in my son's leaky guy. He had pnuemonia at 18 months of age and was given Augmentin. That is when the chronic diahrrea began along with his regression into autism. He was not vaccinated so it was either genetics, a virus, or the Augmentin which was the first of many illnesses and many antibiotics. Or it was the combination of all of those things. I personally would never allow my son to be given the Augmentin again unless it was an emergency. There are other antibiotics that are effective against ear infections. Our ped used Rocephin shots the last time he had a nasty ear infection. The shot bypasses the gut. They are pretty painful though. My son usually functions extremely well following antibiotics and also when he is coming down with a viral infection. A lot of our asd kids do from my

understanding. Zithromax was given to my asd son by our first DAN! doctor. It's supposed to be relatively easy on the gut. Just use LOTS of probiotics at least 2 hours away from the abx.April Hornung wrote: Anybody have any reaction with zithromax? My doctor just prescibed this for an ear infection. Could be PANDAS. Check his ASO and Antidnase strep titers, could be bacteria in the gut,(are his stools improve?), it could be that he has excessive glutamate and the anti biotic is helping with this. Any of these can add to subclinical seizures, that I believe most of our kids have. I would try enzymes, modified atkins diet if possible, Valtrex if he is not on it already. My son has been on antibiotics since he was about 5. He is 11 now. I would not take him off because of regression. I gave him probiotics all the time. Recently we have been doing IVIG for the PANDAS and subclinical seizures. I would also take him to a doctor and do an overnight EEG.

There has been a lot of emails that discuss the use of antibiotics and the advances during that time--I believe it was in another yahoo group like GFCF--there has been a lot of parents that have noticed this---Tina Gartrell wrote: Zithromax was given to my asd son by our first DAN! doctor. My son's chronic ear infection healed on its own when I stopped prescription. The doctor knows it'll temporarily mask the problem and he knows he will see you again for another rx. I tried applying mullein oil drops and that's end of it.mary ann mendoza wrote: From what I read and watched, prescribed antibiotics kills the entire colony of good guys in the gut allowing the remaining bad guys to proliferate at much faster rate. There is a latency period that in 10, 20, 30 years the development of diabetis, archritis, fibromylg, lupus, etc. So I just take the natural antibacterial and stay away from the ones created in the lab. Erythromycin and penicillin are derived from mold, a result shown on my petri dish. We've done it in Microbiology Lab.
