There have been several discussions on pregnancy in the past few

years - including testimonials from those who have had children. You

should go to the yahoo group Stills homepage and do a search for

messages dealing with pregnancy and see what answers you may find

there.

HI, My name is Malayvanh. I was also on Mtx for over two years. Initially we

were trying to wean me off prednisone. My husband and I decided to have another

child so my doctor told me to wait I think 3-6 months before trying. I am now 7

months pregnant. So far so good. The only thing I have to worry about is

gestational diabetes. My first test was high so I had to go in for the second

one. Don't have the results for this one yet. If I do have it, I'm not

surprised. My Mom was diabetic and with my first pregnancy, I was borderline.

I am currently on 4mgs of prednisone and the stills is pretty much in control. I

am feeling pretty good except for the regular pregnancy problems such as I feel

like a cow after eating.

Dear All,

sorry, another e-mail from me tonight. First I do not write for weeks and then

all my e-mails come at once ;-)...i

It is already quiet late here in the UK, but I am sitting on the couch and just

don't feel tiered at all! I am still quiet wound up and can not go to bed (maybe

it is the full moon?). If I try to go to sleep now I will lie there for hours,

think and worry...

One thing that has been on my mind a lot recently is the medication I am on and

how it would affect me having children.

As I mentioned in my earlier e-mail my Rheumy switched me to MTX a few weeks

ago. Something I had hoped to avoid, as I have heard so many bad things about it

and I had previously mentioned to my Rheumy that my husband and I had thought of

starting a family within the next 2-3 years. He therefore started me on

Azathioprine first, which did not work. Now with the MTX he told me that you are

not allowed to get pregnant under any circumstances and you also have to wait at

least 6 month after coming off MTX, before you can try for a baby. Well, this is

quiet worrying.

Has anyone of you experience with this? How about other medications like

Kineret or Enbrel etc. Would that be the same...should you not have kids if you

are on any off those medications? How long do I need to take the MTX before they

can try and wean me off it? Should I request to be switched to another

medication if want to start trying for kids, if so which one would be " safe " ?

Of course I will make sure not to get pregnant while I am on MTX, as I do want

to have a healthy child, but I guess I would just like to know where we stand,

as my husband is quiet keen to have kids. I could then also prepare myself, in

case I have to face the fact that I can or should not have kids...well, I guess

I could then get a bunny instead ;-)

I am also worried of passing Stills on to my children (I know it is not really

proven if it is something you can pass on etc., but you never know). Would I be

able to cope with a child, especially if I am having a flare. Sigh! So many

things to worry about.

Thanks for your thoughts, help and advise (as always).

Have a pain free day everyone.
