Guest guest
<<<<Our nada would not allow us to dress ourselves or pick out clothes until we were old enough to buy our own! Our hair always had to be perfect, clothes clean, not wrinkled.. I don't think I ever played in a mud puddle! When nada lived with sister, she was doing the same thing with my neice. Now that nada is gone I think it helps my sister see that letting Neice have some control over what she wears is good for her. My little 3 (almost 4!) year old neice is so picky about what she wears too! My sister is so cool though, she lets her go out in " outfits " that most kids only wear on halloween or " dress up. " (Nada would not approve!) It is so cute, my neice will have on a tu-tu, sparkly tights, 18 hair barrettes, big dress up plastic " high heels " and a cardigan sweater and will be so proud to look so beautiful! People out in public always see that proud look and give her tons of compliments on looking so pretty. Of course when it comes to going to school, sis is able to encourage her to dress a little more conservatively I still love the fact that she's able to express her own little sense of " style " from time to time though. For a long time it was difficult for neice to be convinced to wear clothes at all--lol! She only wanted to wear her bathing suit or nothing. Sis was able to find a middle ground with her--telling her that at home she could wear her bathing suit as much as she wanted, but if she wanted to go somewhere, she had to wear clothes! haha--it worked so far, the fits over having to wear something have all but ceased and she even had on a " normal " looking outfit yesterday! Sometimes though, I envy her ability to wear a tutu and feather boa for everyday activities--wouldn't it be great if we all could dress like that?! haha Kids are so fun! >>>>> Thanks for the heads up =) I let my children do what they want as far as clothing goes. Your post reminded me more and more of my childhood, where nada would make me wear clothes I HATED!!!!! There was no getting out of it with her, as she would lay a huge guilt trip on me at age 4-5 if I even questioned what she laid out for me to wear. As I got older, maybe about 11? I had to babysit and babysit to earn as much $ as I could to buy my own clothes, cause she cut me off. Even though she was getting a nice whopper check from my father, and even though for most of my life she lived rent free. It seemed to give her great joy to make me suffer in any manner she could. When I was in 4th grade I was made to do my own laundry/iron my own clothes, and I look on at my children and think WHOA, they could never do that! Would I want them playing with an IRON? Weird how these BP's chose to live so much for children ( Homes, and my nada a teacher...)?????? Thanks so much =) Kim
