Guest guest
That is a truly terrifying thought.. that her mother died the same way she lived. That is still one major " fear " of my own. Makes me cringe inside.. I don't want her around me, but I don't ever want to think about something like this happening. > Hi All! > > Here are some excerpts from an article on CNN: > > > Dr. " Schlessinger, a well-known radio personality, said > > Friday she was horrified by the " tragic circumstances " of her > > mother's death. > > > > Police said a woman's body was found in Schlessinger's mother's > > apartment earlier in the week. Guest guest
Yes, that's exactly how I felt when mother lived alone and isolated in a huge house hundreds of miles away. She moved there to hide from me, of all things, but even so, I was scared she'd fall again, knock herself out, and then die on the floor alone. Or maybe she'd have another stroke. But, there was nothing I could do. She made her bed, and I had to let her lie in it. SmileS! Guest guest
>To me it was > inexcusable to even THINK of " divorcing " a nada or even not taking > complete care of an elderly (mean or not) parent, or in any way shape > or form " disrespecting " one's " parent. " rachel....i'm still struggling over this one! actually, i am feeling awfully guilty right now about something that happened tonight at dinner with nada. the conversation turned to my fiance's grandmother (who is very mean and not really " with it " anymore) and ongoing problems caring for her. i went off on a huge lecture about how ridiculous granny's treatment of the family is...and how everyone goes way too overboard caring for her and letting her walk (more like stomp) all over them. my nada was clearly getting upset by everything i was saying...i could see the terror rising in her eyes....her worrying about what i was going to do to HER when she got old. she started arguing about daughters' responsibility to their mothers, etc....and i just kept plowing forward. i think i was even being overly harsh, exaggerating my opinion....b/c i was sort of enjoying being in the position to threaten HER for a huge change. how awful of me! i just felt like i wanted her to see that i wasn't going to let her obligate me forever...to let her barge in and destroy my adult life as she nearly did my childhood. it was not a mature way to handle the situation....but i got carried away. does this ever happen to any of you? i fear the repurcussions this is likely to have later....i should have kept my mouth shut. she was on her good behavior at dinner b/c " outsiders " were there....but who knows how this will come back to haunt me! ah well. thanks for listening. i'm off to bed to recover for a full day tomorrow. Guest guest
And of course, that bs about good children take care of their parents...ugh! Ilene Me: What you mean that isn't true. My nada is pulling out all the stops this holiday. She is coming up xmas day and staying at least through the weekend. I think the nerves are starting to get to me. At one point she was playing " poor me to the hilt " because I made plans to feed the homeless xmas morning and then go out to my dads at about 1:00. She couldn't believe I would make plans knowing she was there. Right about now I'm really beginning to hate this woman. And she wonders why I don't want her to come.
