Has anyone been succesful at getting their school district to pay

for private specialized instruction ( like mood Bell or Dr.

Silton)? If so, what avenues do I need to take to get this

accomplished? Thanks for your responses in advance.

what school district and what state? if it is calif, read the publication

from protection and advocacy called parents rights and responsibilities. it

spells out everything. basically, if you can prove that a certain methodology

is " appropriate " for your child based on his/her specific needs, etc., you

can make an argument. vicki

I believe Kev is in downstate Illinois.

I met a mom with a 7th grader LD kids over the past summer. They

moved from downstate (a crass river from st. louis) to Buffalo Grove.

The boy is been bused everyday to a special learning school some

where in ton (or some where around there) every day at school

district's expense. Her husband and the other son (NT) still back at

down state. She was quite happy with the placement, although it is

quite hard on her family. I saw here over swimming lessons, and have

not met her afterwards. There are 3 district in BG, I think it is the

on in cook county.

So I can only say it can be done in Illinois, but may not in every

school district.

For non-LD kids it may be helpful. Although I've never

used this program with my neurotypical child. The only

subject she sometimes needs a little extra help with is

algebra (and only before tests). For this I hire a good

tutor (a friend of mine who has a Phd in math!!!).

My LD child requires more specific help (I have to convert

everything to fit his learning modality -- he's visual spacial

and needs memory cues). I wouldn't choose Kumon for

him because it's not designed for kids with learning

differences.
