Guest guest
http://tvguide.ca/TVNews/Articles/100911_tired_of_reality_AD Sick of reality By Amber Dowling 2010-09-11 New survey finds reality TV on the outs Not to be one-sided, but thank goodness. It seems as though people are finally sick of reality TV, although living in Canada, you'd be hard pressed to tell. Week after week, year after year shows like American Idol, Survivor, The Amazing Race, Dancing With the Stars and Big Brother dominate BBM Canada's ratings, kicking scripted dramas and comedies to the curb. According to a new survey by TiVo, however, indicates that this trend may be on the way out, at least in the U.S. " Snooki and Real Housewives fatigue may be setting in, " claims the survey, which was first reported on TheWrap. The findings were that 40 per cent of viewers thought that reality TV was the television theme that is the most overdone, and that this season, most people are looking forward to the return of scripted dramas NCIS and House, along with NBC laffer The Office. Among the new shows, survey respondents indicated that Law & Order: Los Angeles and Hawaii Five-0 are the most anticipated new series. Perhaps this is why this fall's sole new reality show for the big four networks, Secret Millionaire, has been pushed to midseason — the appetite simply isn't as strong as it used to be. Meanwhile, Survivor has been pushed back to Wednesday nights, moving from its long-standing Thursday night timeslot, and the original Apprentice — considered one of the few " smart " reality series — is being resurrected in lieu of another Celebrity instalment, which for the past three years has featured catty D-Listers duking it out in front of the cameras. What else did TiVo viewers think was overdone? Vampires and supernatural, according to 22 per cent of respondents.
