Hi all,

Can anyone remember a good descriptive phrase in German for

'tablespoon of blood' or 'teaspoon of blood'?

As far as I remember 'ein Fingerhut voll Blut', which means a

'thimbleful of blood', is sometimes used. But wouldn't the volume of

a tablespoon be more than a thimbleful?

Any ideas?

Hi

As this does sound a little funny to me even in english (but I am not native

English but German) I would translate it straight forward with Teelöffel und

Esslöffel Blut. Do they may be give some volume for this? (I vaguely

remember learning volumes for tea and tablespoon, but must admitt I don t

remember them now, something like 15 ml for a tablespoon, but I coud be

pretty off on that one) Then you could avoid the funny sounding jargon. But

where does this come from anyways?

Hi

English but German) I would translate it straight forward with Teelöffel und

1 teaspoon is about 5 ml, 1 tablespoon about 10 ml. I would use the ml

instead of ein Teeloeffel/Essloeffel Blut.

then I wouldn't worry that much, it's just meant to give a patient an idea

of how much blood will be drawn (it depends on which country you're talking

about but as far as I know, it is mandatory to tell the patient what is it

exactly that will happen to them and it has to be explained in such a way

that they understand, just in case it goes to trial afterwards...

in the US, Germans have a fairly good idea of how much a milliliter is :-))
