Guest guest
The Texas state legeslative session is coming to a close on May 24, and SB 419, the insurance bill for enrollees with autism, is STILL in the House Calendars committee waiting to be scheduled for debate on the house floor! Please call (SOOOOOOO much better than e-mail) YOUR REPRESENTATIVE today (you should have their number on speed dial by now)!! and talk to the insurance aide if you can or the chief of staff or who ever it is that you've been talking to. Please remember to be very polite and succinct. Staffers are now counting hours until the end of session, and they are very, very tired and stressed. TELL THEM THAT: 1) You are very concerned that to date SB 419 is still not scheduled for a vote on the House floor. 2) SB 419 is very important to you as their constituent. 3) The insurance lobby is trying to scare people by saying rates will raise when the real issue is that insurance companies want to shift the FULL BURDEN of paying for treating autism to the tax payer. Insurance should spread the cost of treating kids with autism like they spread the cost of treating every other illness. 4) It can cost about $3M to care for a person with autism for their lifetime. As a taxpayer, you don't think the full cost of this should be paid out of your taxes. Early intervention like the kind in SB 419 will cut the number of people needing lifetime at least in half. 5) Request that the representative call Rep. Woolley, the chair of the House calendars committee, and ask her to schedule SB 419 for immediate debate.
