One wonders if the Three Gorges dam hasn't changed the ecology of the reason to cause this flooding in the first place. One wonders who the 120 million people affected by the flood will act will behave if they feel that the Chinese government is failing them in some fashion. Wen was quoted on state media as ordering officials to prepare for "more serious floods and disasters", the BBC reported on Saturday. The premier issued new instruction during a visit to central city of Wuhan, while wading through knee-high water. The premier also said the situation was at a "crucial stage" in the central and southern parts of the country. The remarks come as Weather experts are warning of more torrential rains. Thousands of people living along major rivers are being evacuated from their homes. China's longest river, the Chang-jiang, has burst its banks in some areas. And now, a huge dam on the river is close to overflowing. Two typhoons and weeks of heavy rain have caused widespread flooding across southern China. Twenty-eight provinces have been hit, while 120 million people have been affected. The floods in China this year have left 742 people dead and 367 others missing.
