Guest guest
Hi all... Dr. G has just asked us to put our (78 pound) child on an iron supplement. I asked him for a brand name and he said Feosol or Ferrinsol (spelling may be wrong...). He did not insist on those brands. He said to be sure to get orange or green pills... not red. What do some of you use and where do you buy it? We have only found liquids so far and since our son has no problem swallowing pills (and pills are more convenient for us than liquid), I would really like to find it in pill form. Guest guest
I have purchased TwinLabs capsules. Has no filler and I just dump the contents of the capsules in with the rest of the meds I mix up! Re: Iron supplement Hi all... Guest guest
Caroline be aware that Feosol (green pills) contain a form of casein. We used to used Feosol. Had some problems (more energy, inattention, aggression - things we normally see when gets casein) I called the company - nope everything seemed fine. Was talking with a mom of 3 kids one day and told her about the problems ... she asked what iron supplement he was on. I told her - she said " yep, that's the one. Has casein in it " . She told me which ingredient (I can't remember). I called the company back and their response was, " oh, yes that ingredient is made from milk " Why would an iron product contain casein? I guess the same reason why a common liquid antibiotic contains butter .... doris land Message: 1 Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2003 10:47:13 -0500 From: Caroline Glover <sfglover@...> Subject: Re: Iron supplement Hi all... Guest guest
Hi, Caroline: I get it at Whole Foods or Wild Oats but you can probably get it at most health food stores or it can be purchased on-line -- http://www.twinlab.com/ Marc > > > I have purchased TwinLabs capsules. Guest guest
For those of you who deal with very sensitive tummies, what iron supp have you found to work best and not cause GI problems? I'm actually looking for one for myself, as I am pregnant and trying to boost my hemoglobin a bit (its the low end of normal now) I had to d/c the ones I'm on now due to GI upset. I don't think I was absorbing it, as my levels have not gone up at all in 3 mos. Should I look for enteric coated? Time release? Try a liquid maybe? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Becky, Dr. Goldberg recommded " Elemental Iron: 55-65 mg - 1/2 per day " or " Feosol (liquid iron) 1 tsp per day " for my son, he weighs 37 lbs. We have not started giving it to him yet because he has been sick...but plan to soon. I hope this information helps. Argie Re: Re: Iron supplement > I buy walgreen's brand 50 mg. time release.
