Guest guest
ALERT - HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS VACCINE (HPV) LEGISLATION STOP HPV VACCINE MANDATE BY LAW, RULE, OR EXECUTIVE ORDER SUPPORT HB 1098 and OPPOSE SB 110 Dear PROVE Texas Members and Texas Parents, We are asking you to take a few minutes Monday, April 9, to call the Senate Health and Human Services committee members as well as your own State Senator and ask them to SUPPORT HB 1098 and OPPOSE SB 110. [sUPPORT] HB 1098 by Representative Bonnen specifies that HPV immunization is not required for admission to any elementary or secondary school and preempts any contrary executive orders of the governor. [OPPOSE] SB 110 by Senator Van de Putte would require all girls enrolling in the sixth grade this fall to be vaccinated against HPV. Senate Health and Human Services Committee Members: Senator Jane , chair Senator Bob Deuell, v-chair Senator Janek Senator Nichols Senator Dan Senator Eliot Shapleigh Senator Uresti Senator Royce West Senator Judith Zaffirini Please be polite and give the aid your name and city you are calling from. If you need additional information you may link to: http://www.vaccineinfo.net/immunization/vaccine/hpv/oppose_hpv_mandate.pdf This piece outlines the scientific and economic reasons an HPV vaccine mandate is not only bad for our children, it is bad government. The reasons to oppose a mandate are the same for supporting HB 1098 since it prevents one. If you wish to attend the hearing to either testify or submit a witness affirmation card, it will take place in the Senate Chamber at 11:00am or upon adjournment on Tuesday April 10, 2007. Sincerely, Rex and Dawn --------------------- Additionally, here is some information on HB 1098 from our friend Cathie of the Texas Eagle Forum: TEF Legislative Update, April 7, 2007 HB 1098 by Rep. Dennis Bonnen has passed the House and is now scheduled for a public hearing in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee on Tuesday, APRIL 10 AT 11 A.M. OR UPON ADJOURNMENT IN THE SENATE CHAMBER. It is rumored that the Governor’s office believes a compromise will be reached with the Legislature that the grassroots will find acceptable. While I don’t know what may be offered, I know that there can be NO COMPROMISE on parental rights—PERIOD! WHAT YOU CAN DO: Please ask your Senator to SUPPORT HB 1098 with the same language that passed the House, which would PREVENT the mandate of the HPV vaccine, either by the Governor or the HHS Commissioner. Remind them that the House voted 118 Yeas, 23 Nays and 1 Present, not voting on HB 1098. Contact your State Senator by replacing his / her first and last name in this email: first.last@... Guest guest
Considering the fact that it has yet to be disproven that vaccines can cause autism, and considering the fact that the Texas governor insists on forcing a vaccine with unknown long term side effects on our daughters, I think this is the perfect forum for this email. JMO, Anne -- Re: [PROVE] ALERT HPV VACCINE MANDATE LEGISLATION .. I don't think this is the proper forum for this email.

Guest guest
It is my understanding that any parent that wants to opt out can do so by filing the proper documentation. I still feel this is not the forum for discussion. Guest guest
Did you know that you risk losing your health insurance and/or you physician by opting out of vaccinations? Guest guest
I'm aware there are legal options to pursue should you choose to do so. We are all entitled to our opinion. Guest guest
That's right. I was " fired " by a pediatrician for politely declining to vaccinate my children. And I agree that medical/vaccine issues are matters for advocacy. ....the test of a civilization is in the way that it cares for its helpless members. -Pearl S. Guest guest
There are lawyers who do pro bono, reduce fees, accept installment payments and take on contingency cases all in the interest of helping clients who have trouble paying. It is unfortunately expensive for all concerned -- including the lawyers -- to litigate. As a lawyer who has a vested interest in the autism and special ed community, along with other lawyers on this and other groups, I am willing to help out in any way that I can. Moreover, as I have witnessed over the years in this group, there are good people from various backgrounds willing to share their experiences and give valuable, useful advice. I have both given and received advice. Just ask and keep fighting for our children. Zone Nguyen Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device Re: [PROVE] ALERT HPV VACCINE MANDATE LEGISLATION .. Guest guest
I haven't been on this list long enough to know what people do or do not find acceptable yet, but I would like to respond to your reference to " legal options. " How many people have the financial resources to pursue those legal options? Especially those already strapped with heavy medical bills. And just imagine if they lose their health insurance, that increase their medical costs tenfold. I've been a parental rights advocate for years for almost 10 years. I've helped parents appeal board decisions victoriously through TEA where the schools have spent anywhere from 20-70K in attorney's fees and the parents only had themselves for representation as they couldn't afford attorneys. There was a girl in Alvin who was set to graduate with a full ride scholarship because of her class standing. She was written up for a disciplinary action because she forgot her belt that morning. She lost the scholarship because she lost her standing as a result of the disciplinary action. Others ask, " why didn't the parents just sue? " Simple -- They couldn't afford to. Do you spend thousand of dollars and many years fighting a legal battle on something you will most likely lose or do you spend the money on your child's college education, which she was going to be starting very shortly? Legal avenues are simply not available for most people anymore, that is unless unless you have a extra few thousand sitting around or unless you have a matter where someone is willing to champion your cause and pay your legal fees. If you don't have either of these, you are simply out of luck. As justice is out priced for most, it shouldn't be relied upon for a means of protection of parental rights. Guest guest
vickie, I urge you to send your experience in to the legislators on the education committees where a lot of bills related to autism and education are being considered-- especially the training for general ed teachers and paraprofessionals etc. Legislators need to know that school administrators view the tax payers pockets as their own personal legal fund to protect sub-standard and often inadequate programs staffed by improperly trained teachers. Guest guest
Thanks, I have addressed them in the past, in 2001 (a bill of Sen. West's) and 2003 (a bill of Rep Zedler's). I was planning to go up in 2005, but that's when my oldest was diagnosed with Aspergers and was dealing with his ARDs, as well as my younger son's ARDs. I've delivered several parent's stories to them as well. I'm on my way out of town at the moment, but will look closely at the bills when I come back. Guest guest
..> I don't think this is the proper forum for this email.< I disagree. Precedents have been set with all mandated vaccines. I assume that you do not believe vaccines cause autism but many on this list do think there is a connection. C.
