Mo. gov. cancels trade trip to Taiwan, S. Korea

Associated Press - December 3, 2010 7:24 PM ET

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has canceled a trade trip to

Taiwan and South Korea.

The governor's office on Friday cited " travel challenges. " A spokesman declined

to elaborate. It was not known if the trade trip would be rescheduled.

There have been tensions between North Korea and South Korea since North Korea

shelled a South Korean island last month. Two civilians and two marines died.

Nixon had planned to be overseas from Dec. 10 to Dec. 16. He was to start in

Taiwan and travel to South Korea on Dec. 14. The governor was traveling with his

wife, two state department directors, business leaders and several trade and

agriculture groups.

On Friday, the U.S. and South Korea agreed to the largest trade pact in more

than a decade.
