Guest guest
Dear Charlie, dear all, Some info for our new listmates : Spamming on the basis of the listing of our members' e-mail addresses is impossible now. In fact, some months ago, as we got spams and subscriptions requests from sexual web sites or sexually " obsessed " people, I've desactivated the function which made visible to other members the " list of members " of our group. So, even our own members can't see who belongs to our group. (We are about 550 members now). I've also " decreed " that any newcomer, even after his/her susbcription is approved by me, will have to pass through a " moderation stage " , the duration of which is not fixed. During this phase, I can see if the messages sent are trully related to medical translation, and approve/reject them. I cancel the moderation of each incoming message from a new member only once I'm sure this member is really involved in our profession, or interested in medical terminology. I know this procedure is a bit dictatorial :-), but it's the only way to preserve our list from spams and virusses. However, about the ACPS spam you mentioned, Charlie, I also received it, but I know this company has found my data from my own Website. It's a normal way to find new potential clients on the Web. They sort and filter huge databanks containing all registered websites URL's, on the basis of some criteria corresponding to the intended target. About virusses, it means that I may receive them from a moderated member, or even within a subscription request, but the list may not. Regarding this problem, I'm afraid I can't do more. So, I hope you feel a bit reassured :-) Have a nice day Take care GUILLIAUMET - France Moderator of the Medical_Translation mailing-list for professionals http://cgtradmed-com.ifrance.com cgtradmed@... cgtradmed@... cgtradmed@... +33 (0)4 75 90 96 85 ----- Message d'origine ----- De : " SLS " À : <medical_translation > Envoyé : mardi 17 décembre 2002 08:27 Objet : RE: Spam from ACPS > Hello, Charlie -- > > I didn't get the spam you mentioned -- so if someone is spamming from > the list, at least they are reading the signature lines and eliminating > obvious mismatches <smile> > > +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ > Lee Seaman > J-E medical and pharmaceutical translation > Bellingham WA USA > lseaman@... > Tel 1- Fax 1- > +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ > > > Spam from ACPS > > > > > > Hello folks, > > > > Last week I received an e-mail from a French company offering > > to sell me thousands of contact details of health > > professionals and equipment manufacturers in France and > > elsewhere in Europe on a CD for a " mere " 610 euros HT. > > Coincidence that it arrived days after I posted a message to > > this list asking about getting in to medical translating... > > ;0)).
