Guest guest
Well, since it´s about 90% medical terms .... Excuse the question, but are you a translator, and if so, do you know anything about medicine, or even anatomy, or lexical research, including dictionaries, online and otherwise? It's kinda surprising that you would not even know miocardio [myocardium]. Guest guest
Well, first of all I am not a Medicine Doctor or Student. I need this translation for a friend who is a Medicall Doctor, not to good using the internet and apparently is out of resources since she asked for my help. The text is not 90% Medical terms. I am not a translator per say, but I am billingul and I've translated stuff before, but not with medical terms. TY > > > > > > > Hello. Guest guest
One piece of advice and I'll let you be: check your spelling from time to time and especially before you submit work. Good luck. Guest guest
Dear Charlie, I'm sorry, but Dee is right. This list is made for helping professional medical translators, not to provide free translations to anybody. If you want some of us to make your translation (or your supposed friend's one), please contact a medical translator, not the list. It may happen that some of us make translations for free, but generally only for humanitarian purposes, but the list is is no way a provider of free translations. Do you ask your baker to give you bread for free, because you don't know how to make bread ? Thank you for your understanding. Take care, Guilliaumet - FRance. Guest guest
Dear ? So the way to go would be: to list the words that you need translated and best with the context they are used in (the sentence around) (If your friend is a medical doctor she should then hopefully be able to " edit " the translated text, because the med-speak is sometimes a language in itself ) Regards ISabelle Re: TRanslation, Spanish to Enlgish JOB POSTING??? Guest guest
Sorry my dear.. we all are translators here, most of them specialized in the biomedical area. This is the way we make a living... and most of us do not translate for free (unless sometimes for charity organizations). When you go to your dentist, you pay. When you have an appointment with your attorney, you pay. So why not paying for a good translation? My two cents... Lúcia Saps wrote: > Well, first of all I am not a Medicine Doctor or Student. Guest guest
Ok ok sorry I sent him a mail in private with another translation website where you can oficially get translations for free (I guess I should not mention the name here, and the translations are not always 100%, but very well sometimes, oh well I will not send this to the list: so www.ProZ.com) I was not so concerned with the reputation of the entire list if we would have provided translation help with a couple of words (I might sometimes be too naive for this world thinking people will be thankfull and not abuse your help allthough I have been taught differently), so I understand your concerns (me and my family live on my medical translations, but I started out for free and I still do free teaching and translations for " charity purposes " in the wildlife conservation area and environmental education, kind of developmental aid, and I may be saw a good purpose in helping someone out, first thing in the morning, who might be abusing and something like ProZ should be the best choice). Guest guest
Oh dear, Isabelle, but why do you think this about ProZ? Why should ProZ members work for free? For example, both Our Listowner and myself are members of ProZ. NOBODY should be expected to do their professional work for free except perhaps, as you point out, for charitable purposes. I and my agencies do offer lower rates for public health material and for my own pet cause, AIDS, because I lost several good friends to it. So, sending him to ProZ only means that now he will, quite rightly, get yelled at on ProZ ... and this will not remedy the EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ISSUE THAT THIS TRANSLATION COULD BE OF LIFE OR DEATH IMPORTANCE, and who is responsible if the patient dies because of a bad translation? Charlie? the MD who is either too cheap to pay a real medical translator or too ignorant to realize that Charlie is not the right person? you for sending him to ProZ? Whoever provides one or more half baked translations on ProZ for KudoZ points [i can just see this is going to turn into a succession of site abuse strings of half a sentence at the time and I will alert the moderators for this language pair] ? the rest of us for not wanting to do a translation for free, in an extreme case? This guy is saying the equivalent of " I have a friend who works in a furniture store and he has a customer who wants a chair but he doesn't have a chair and he doesn't know how to make one. So he asked me to, but I only ever stacked together chunks of wood on which you can sit down. So I am coming to you, the cabinet makers, you know how to make chairs, so why don't you make me one for free so I can *give* it [we can only hope] to my friend in the furniture shop so he can sell it to his customer? " Fat chance, sez I.
