Children with autism often do not gain independent self-help skills unless those skills are directly taught. This workshop provides parents, therapists, caregivers and educators behaviorally-based methods for teaching these skills. Attendees of the workshop will learn: A complete program, based on behavior principles, for teaching independent toileting to children with special needs who may not or have not responded to more traditional methods. How to teach pill swallowing. To understand reinforcement, extinction, differential reinforcement, prompting, chaining, shaping and task analysis, and how to apply them when teaching specific self-help skills. How to collect data when teaching self-help skills. Presenter Bio: Gail Wayman, M.Ed., BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a certified Special Education Teacher who has worked with children with special needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders(ASD), for more than ten years. She has worked in public schools as a Special Education Teacher, Behavior Specialist, and In-Home Trainer, and, more recently, has consulted for school districts, private and public service providers, and families implementing in-home ABA programs in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex as an associate of Kelle Wood, M.Ed., BCBA. Ms. Wayman has provided various workshops and training for organizations in the D/FW area including North Texas Autism Education Center, Autism Treatment Center and FEAT North Texas.
