Guest guest
I just sent in my registration for " Race for the cure " for Breast cancer. So, I signed up for my first 5K run :-) YIPPEEE!! It is only a month away so I will have to walk half of it but it's a good cause. I can only do 3/4 of a mile now non-stop - I can HOPE to do 1 1/2 miles non-stop by then right?? I lost an Aunt to breast cancer 10 years ago and so I know my family will sponser me for this. It will be neat to raise money and experience the thrill at the same time. Plus it is in my Mom's city so it's an excuse to go see her for the weekend. I think it's the same weekend as 's big run - April 21rst. LOL Janick who thinks it's a great idea to combine a fitness activity with a great cause (like breast cancer) OT - My first " race " I just sent in my registration for " Race for the cure " for Breast cancer. Amy M, I would suggest doing a run/walk combination the whole time! Like run a certain amount of minutes and then walk a certain amount of minutes. It depends on where you are, but you can start of doing 3 minutes of running/2 minutes of walking or if you can run further than that and don't need that much of a break you can do something like 5 minutes of running/1 minute walk. That walk break REALLY helps and it's best if you take them right from the beginning. You can train that way, too! Good luck with your training and your race! I can't wait to hear how it goes My marathon is the weekend after yours (the 28th)!

Way to take the plunge. I bet you can run longer than you think by then. It is extra motivating to be out there with other people running also. Good cause to run for too!!! And believe me most people walk. Alot of the people involved in 5ks are company employees and organizations not athletes. But there are some runners and it is great practice as well as alot of fun! Good luck and congrats on the upped mileage. Who can't wait to begin running again <sigh>

The race for a cure should be in more than one city. I wonder if they have a web site? Is there a gym near you? The athletic director may know of a running club in your area who would know all the locals runs.
