Guest guest
Stalled in the depths of TEA as far as I know. Tonya Autism Rule Committee? While everyone's in letter-writing moods, what is the latest on the Autism Rule Committee from last legislative session?
Guest guest
I still don't understand why Sen. Shapiro hasn't asked Com. Neely where the rules are. It's like TEA is thumbing their nose at her. Autism Rule Committee? While everyone's in letter-writing moods, what is the latest on the Autism Rule Committee from last legislative session? Guest guest
Weren't the Committee's recommendations given to Commissioner Neeley a long time ago? Wouldn't that fulfill the obligation of Senator Shapiro's bill if I'm reading the text of SB882 correctly. So I guess it's us parents that TEA is thumbing their nose at once again. Guest guest
I think part of shapiro's responsibility to parents would be following up and making sure TEA is accountable and they fullfill their obligations. Just giving something to TEA and not finding out what is happening with it makes it look like it's not important. Nagla > > I still don't understand why Sen. Shapiro hasn't asked Com. Guest guest
Hopefully Liz, Tonya, , nna, or someone else involved with those committee meetings will post. I just didn't want to contact Sen. Shapiro to encourage her to ask Com. Neely where the rules are without further clarification? I didn't want to reference SB882 since that legislation has been fulfilled but I thought that there were other initiatives that came out from those committee meetings? Guest guest
Last I heard from TEA was that it was on Commissioner Neely’s desk. I’ve been watching the rules list and haven’t seen anything posted. The group was also promised an “Autism Best Practices Manual.” A RFQ came out Sept 2006, but only got one bidder (wasn’t publicized) so TEA was to reissue it. Eudaly david.eudaly@... is who told me it would be re-issued in 60 days or so. To date, it's not been. I don't understand why not. A BP Manual was one of the things that both the professionals and parents agreed was needed. Tonya Re: Autism Rule Committee? Guest guest
Possibly, there is a lot to be said for legislative intent, and the intent of the bill was to get new rules published. If all the law did was to create a committee that was to make recommendations to the Commissioner who then could just sit on them indefinately. . . . then I have to wonder why she fought for it so hard. It kind of doesn't make sense to me. S. Re: Autism Rule Committee? Weren't the Committee's recommendations given to Commissioner Neeley a long time ago? Guest guest
So, why don't we all take a few minutes and write a very brief letter? Anyone know of a newspaper or TV station that would be willing to ask what the hold up is and publish the answer? Dr. Shirley J. Neeley 1701 N. Guest guest
Senator Shapiro did not have any other motives other than improving public education for students with autism. She has followed SB 882 and has made inquiries. I think it is safe to say that SB 882 was a learning experience, shed some true light onto our frustrations, the apparent lack of urgency at the TEA as well as their strong desire to maintain the status quo... Remember, who opposed SB 882? The TEA... Anyways, moving forward but have not forgotten about SB 882... Liz tscillian@...
