I was about to add that the public should determine what is on TV, but the public IS determining what is on TV, which is why it is valueless crap. What is to be done? I do not have the answer. But I have a problem with the government trying to wedge itself even more into programming as they continue to cut funding for Public Television. Guest guest
I agree. Most of what is out there is junk and its getting worse. "Reality" shows dominate now and they intentionally look for bad behaving people and the producers provoke conflict where none might otherwise exist. It really is a dumbing down of an already barely mediocre part of the media. My TV has been off more often than on lately, which means I can't even stand the noise from the trash any longer. Even the Daytime cartoons are getting dumber and dumber (I would leave it on the cartoon channels since it was easy to just have the sound in the background and not pay much attention to it). Well, I should say not only are they dumb, but others have a greater or lesser degree of PC messages, and the blurbs put out by the stations themselves have even more, such as the stars of human shows telling kids what they should be doing and thinking, etc. You are also right in another way. Its the sports channels that keep most of the cable and satellite companies afloat, that and porn. I've read that Gm (which owns Directv) and AT & T networks take in 80% of the cable porn revenue in the US. Anyway, the sports channels keep ramping up their fees and the companies have to meet it because they know without the sports coverage the companies would fail. This is why rates are high and keep going up. Yet most sports fans don't seem to mind, just like they don't mind spending as much for a single ticket as a whole family would spend 15 years ago for a whole day's outing. So, without the sports channels, there'd likely be no history channel, etc. either. In a message dated 12/3/2010 1:50:17 P.M.
