You have some good points in your post, and HCD.

I was Republican most of my life because during that time they were for fiscal sense, a strong economy, strong military for defense, personal liberty, etc. The Democrats were the opposite on all counts. I don't consider myself a Republican now and haven't for some time. Certainly under bush they have proven that they aren't what they used to be, but instead are a cross between what the Dems used to be as far as economics and big government, but they still try to pretend they are the more moral party. The Dems on the other hand have gone way far out to the left across the board.

The other problem with the Republicans is that they try to be very inclusive to keep their numbers up. So they have radical liberals like Snow, vicious opportunists like McCaine and that one from Alaska who was just voted out (who said she would obey the will of the people but is running anyway), Spectre and others. They refuse to clean house and kick these people out because most of them would turn Dem, which is what they really are anyway. At the same time, the National Committee spent the whole of the last campaign spitting on the grass roots and local people. I have talked to many who were involved in the campaigns and they all say the same thing: the national party dictated to them and told them how it was going to be and dismisses any and all concerns they had. So, the national party is completely out of touch with reality and they get no support from me, but it is fun to unload on their callers who still call me for money after years of me telling them to stop calling.

My studies are mostly in history, military history and strategy, but also some economics and other things. Its just really strange how there is this facade of the economy doing well when underneath it

is rotten. If people just figured that out and what the government was really up to, they'd freak.

They will because this administration was built up like a cult of charisma around Obama. They mythos built up around him, the huge crowds (which cause the mind to shut down and not question just be emotional), the sets he appeared on, his scripted speeches, gestures and expressions, etc. The tricks of a charlatan writ large. It also helped that there was an economic crisis and he promised so much to so many.

People might switch over, but I'm not sure that it will make much difference for reasons I'll explain in another post.

People will still put their faith in Obama. There are no more "reagan Democrats" left these days to vote for any Republican Presidentential candidate. You will see some people shift to Republican Congressmen, and also to the Tea Party, but more likely than not, not enough to make a difference, unless maybe I have people figured wrong. Congress is also looking at investigating gold prices and ownership. They've gotten millions away from their main assets, their homes, and into debt, so now they are sniffing at gold and silver. FDR stole everyone's gold so there would be less competition to the fiat dollar his policies were going to inflate. Next they will be sniffing around private retirement investments like 401Ks and such. These will probably be taken away in place of a Social Security-like promise of government repayment. Other savings they won't have to worry about because inflation will quickly make them worthless, that is things like savings accounts, money market accounts, CD's, etc.

The stock market will tank eventually. That is it rising makes me scratch my head and warn people to get away from it.

Here is a metaphor for people:

Underneath what looks like firm and solid land are a bunch of drained aquifers that are going to collapse into sinkholes.

That is what our economy is like.
