We got a total of roughly 6.5 inches from the recent storms. Some flooding east and southeast of here.

The street hasn't collapsed, but it has very strong barriers around it now and one lane is blocked off. That means where 3 street used to lead in, there are now two half streets and one full street. I'm thinking about going down to check out the other one some time this week.

I did see a bunch of people the other day looking at the street. I was going to talk to them, but one of the guys was looking at me like a cop looks at a drug dealer coming up the street. I just looked him in the eye and said "hello" and kept eye contact as I walked by. He never dropped it though. Probably wanted to keep me away form the others. Not sure what they were talking about but it didn't sound like the street.

Anyway, we'll see if it takes the 2 years to fix this that it took them on the other street.

PS: Its amazing how much the other end of the creek has silted up. The last time I was up there, maybe 15 years ago (where does the time go?), the creek had a bed 2 to 3 feet deep at the bottom of a gentle slope on one side and tall, steep slope on the other. That bed is pretty well filled in now. The creek still follows its old course its just full of sand. Neat the street it is actually flowing through thick grass.

A creek will cut deeper if the flow is heavy and fast. If it is slow and light,

the sediment in the water will slowly filter out of the water and deposit itself

on the bed of the creek.

I would expect that possibly this rain would have actually gouged out some of

the creek bed, but of course I could be wrong.

Glad to hear you weren't washed away.

The creek is usually rather slow flowing. It has deep areas along with shallows. Never tried to figure out the flow volume. I've got the formulas around someplace just never tried it out. Given the drought conditions, its been slower than usual so that probably accounts for some of the build up. Most of the sediment I think came from the other side of the railroad tracks where the golf course, field around the high school and all the construction for the new sports park, which is up at the headwaters of the creek.

The creek doesn't seem to be digging any deeper because the deeps have been in the same places, more or less, for a long time, and the water flows very slowly there. There are a few places where it is slowly eroding into the banks and bends and such though. The shallows tend to places thick with pebbles that don't move in the regular current and don't seem much affected by the heavier rains. Then again, the sediments might be clogging up the deeps. Maybe I'll go down and take a look at some of the places and see what they are like now.

We weren't in danger of washing away this time. The worst I remember was when I was a child and Hurricane came through. The rain was so heavy from that that the creek looked like rapids. Literally. The water was well out of usual banks and roaring past trees so rapidly it was kicking up big bow waves.
