Sorry, I have no idea abt how to say that in Portuguese.

From my running days, I have the notion that Italian Marathon runners

commonly call it " la crisi del trentesimo chilometro " .

I wonder whether anyone knows how to say this in Portuguese in a medical

context?

" Until recently, scientists thought that running out of glycogen caused

'hitting the wall', the severe muscle stiffness and pain that occurs in many

runners between the 18th and 25th miles of a marathon, causing them to work

much harder to maintain pace. "

Then:

" Runners can protect their muscles against 'hitting the wall' by doing

eccentric training once a week, repeat bursts of running downhill very

fast. "

Dear Cássia

some expressions used in Brazil are 'barreira do quilômetro trinta',

and 'muro do quilômetro trinta' (possibly a literal translation).

I'd suggest 'efeito do quilômetro trinta'.
