Guest guest
Personal thoughs about being anything but united on autism issues.... " If we wait for the moment when everything, absolutely everything, is ready, ~ we shall never begin. " Ivan Turgenev There is NEVER EVER EVER EVER going to be a perfect bill that perfectly serves every need that autism results in. Never. We cannot wait until every bill is perfect and serves every one with every need - and THEN support it. We just can't folks. We have to support the efforts for what they are - efforts. We need to support these bills for what they offer, which is a start. The autism bill ain't gonna do squat for my son. But I tell you, if I had a Grandson just diagnosed at 2 years old - I would want him to have the benefit of this bill. Dividing and not supporting this because it doesn't help your child -- tells the parents of all those young children and all the future young children, that their child doesn't matter. Who would do that? Who would not support a bill because it doesn't help their child - but would possibly help someone else's? Sure it's maddening - but when I call my Senators and Representatives to have them support this - I'm going to say, " And hey - my child is 13 and he needs insurance coverage too.... " I don't particularly like the autism voucher/choice thing - but you know - if it helps someone - I'm certainly not going to oppose it. I did, and will again, send my letters of support, yet concern, but also add that for my family - I want the public school program to be properly funded and appropriate for my child. Another of my favorite quotes is: Alice came to the fork in the road.... " Which road do I take? " she asked. " Where do you want to go? " responded the Cheshire cat. " I don't know, " Alice answered. " Then, " said the cat, " it doesn't matter. " ~ Carroll - Alice in Wonderland. Listmates and friends - we are at a fork in the road. The way to go is forward in unity. We must be united. Otherwise not only will our generation continue to suck - but the next one will too. Sincerely, M. Guppy M. No one should live in one. We cannot debate who should get an inclusive education. Everyone should. We cannot determine who does and who does not get the right to make their own choices and forge their own futures. All must. "
