Guest guest
The building that burned was part of the old Brown and on tobacco company. For a very long time it had been a lynchpin in the local economy. It was denied an expansion permit some years ago and it closed it operations here and expanded elsewhere. Many jobs lost over that. The building stood empty for ages, and I used it as the fictional location of a couple of stories. It was being refitted as condos, though I have a feeling it was more likely to be Section 8 housing instead. The city has been trying to revitalized certain parts of downtown, but I don't know how successful they will actually be. The cause of the fire is being investigated. http://www.wtvr.com/news/wtvr-petersburg-warehouse-fire,0,7684156.story
