Guest guest
Hi, I am brand new to the group. My daughter is 10 yrs old and was diagnosed with multiple things over the years starting when she was a toddler. First Sensory Integration Dysfunction, then Childhood regulatory disorder, then High functioning Autism and finally PDD/NOS. She is doing ok academically and has done so well the school district seems to not believe her diagnosis. They seem to prefer to believe her behavior is willfull. She currently has a 504 but doesn't receive any services. (No OT, ST) Sometimes she attends a social skills lunch type group with a guidance counsellor. Social skills are very tough for her and she has trouble keeping friends. (seems to make them easily but then is perceived as mean or just not liked and she seems genuinely baffled as to why kids feel this way about her). So I am looking for social skills groups or books and ideas. I also have an appt with a psychologist who specializes in autism to have her reevaluated diagnosis wise. I have never told her her diagnosis and if the psychologist still thinks she is on the spectrum that is another issue we will be struggling with now. Have most people told their kids? Sorry this is so much but I haven't talked to any moms of kids with autism in a long time (years). Thanks in advance!
