Guest guest
According to Enig, trans fats are not formed from heating vegetable oils. Even though breast milk contains other fats, studies have shown, for example, that babies nursed off mothers eating trans fats have lowered visual acuity. That's one of the first studies done, back in the 1950s I think! Mother's have a responsiblity not to eat trans fats when they are pregnant or nursing IMO, but to say that this somehow justifies a ban on the nutrition facts for baby foods is asanine. Although, really, parents can just not buy baby foods with " partially hydrogenated vegetable oil " in the listing. Guest guest
Or make their own! I thought it would be soooooo inconveinent but it was so EASY!! 1 easy way is to make some BIG batches and freeze in individual size portions (those tiny tiny canning jars that hold about 1/3 of a cup are great!). Then we borrowed (but you can buy them very inexpensivly) this little grinder that we'd just put in a few scoops of what we were eating and crank, instant baby food with NO prior prep at all (except making dinner which of course I was doing anyway). Instant NT baby food!!! Hey, there's a little side job, making homemade, healthy frozen baby foods to sell! Guest guest
So typical -- they keep changing the subject to whether and how much trans-fats are dangerous, when the point is that they should be labeled so the consumer can know what they are buying and make their own decisions! Also, the formulas are bad for babies anyway, for more than their trans-fat content. I know my own mother did the best she could, but she couldn't nurse, and we had powdered formulas, and I was given soy milk -- no telling how much that contributed to my current health problems.
