I'd initially wanted a crockpot but the new models run much hotter than the old [due to fears of e.coli and the such probably]. The reviews are just terrible on Amazon for nearly all brands, including the high fangled programmable ones. I decided to go with the enameled nesco/ harvest roaster instead because it has the temp control. Most of them are teflon, ick. It is more versatile than a crockpot, one can steam/ bake/ roast [came with a roasting rack]. I wish they had ceramic roasters but I couldn't find any.
