" What the HELL is it going to take for the rest of the world to WAKE UP and

realise that they are seriously poisoning themselves with too many processed

foods - sugar and grains and vegetable oils " .

I don't know how it is in other countries, but Americans seem to be a

basically trusting people, and given the barage of processed-foods

advertising they are subject to, it's not likely they will soon make the

connection between what they eat and the obesity and illness that is slowly

killing them. Nor will they quickly see through the lies of the

medical/pharamceutical industries. Last night I heard of a man whose wife

was misdiagnosed with cancer and then killed (yes, a jury granted that she

was killed) with the chemotherapy " treatment. "

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It was as if this disease was

better food. Does it have to crash? Do you feel that your wave is

world or are you like me and fear for the worst?

Hi , i share your frustration, as i'm sure a lot if not most of

the people here do.

like you said, a lot of us came to eat healthy because of health

problems we had, and i fall into that category. but, i also didn't

really 'move my butt' into healthy eating until my problems got

worse. and it seems like most people fall into 3 categories: 1.

people like us, 2. people who eat crap but seem to suffer little to

no ill effect, and 3. people who eat crap, are made ill, but have

faith in the medical establishment. i personally think they are

brainwashed to think that if they go on medication, all will be well

but sometimes it just makes things worse.

and so, to answer your question, i think people basically have not

much motivations to change, if they are brought up eating crap, like

i was, until they have problems...and they realize the medical

establishment will NOT help them but might make things worse.

i have wondered like you...how long will it take? and will it even

happen at all? i think we are making progress but i also think it

won't happen til a lot of the older generation dies off. my mother

is so entrenched in modern med., problems and all, and won't listen

to a word i say. she thinks i'm a nut.

a woman at the church we used to go to, told me i was obsessed with

nutrition; and that was because the children were fed juice and

donuts after church during sunday school. every sunday!! our son

was not allowed to eat that way...so how could i not fight it? i

lost. no one else shared my belief!!!!!!!!!!!!

a wapf friend and i talk about this often; we've wondered if junk

food might be the next step in human 'evolution'...those it doesn't

kill will be made stronger by it. 'survival of the fittest'. only

those that are not made unhealthy by it will reproduce and survive.

then i realized that a lot of the health problems are not made

manifest until people are past their reproductive years, so there

goes that theory. by the time people are dying of cancer, heart

disease, etc., they've already had their children.

i was reading my new issue of Nourishing Traditions and there's a

book i want to get: Modern Medicine: the new world religion.

sounds interesting, doesn't it? here's the link on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-

/1932181148/qid=1118501443/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-4162204-9450514?

v=glance & s=books

but it's not just modern medicine and the drug companies, it's the

food companies and modern ag as well...and it all revolves around

money and power.

thank God that the WAPF is using their resources to fight all

this...and they need all our support.

I run a homemaking site, and give folks a lot of information and advice

on cooking and nutrition. Not all the articles I have on the site

reflects WAPF because I started the site in 1999 and I came to NT about

two years ago. But whenever we talk about food and nutrition on my

discussion boards inevitably I get apologists saying, " eh, I have to

die of something! " and I'm like, " you're going to die of Cheetos?! " I

have a resident rancher on my boards; she's a homemaker in New Mexico

who runs a few hundred head of cattle. Of course, I got all excited and

tried to tell her about the burgeoning (and better paying) grassfed

market. Boy, she nearly took my head off! Ironically she's one of the

top " I have to die of something " people. Eats at Mcs, shops at

WalMart--basically doing everything she can to end her own way of life.

I just don't get it.

People poisoning themselves

....How many of you have wondered " What the HELL is it going to take for the

rest of the world to WAKE UP and realise that they are seriously poisoning

themselves with too many processed foods - sugar and grains and vegetable

oils " .... In my non-internet life, I do not know of one single person who

is avoiding processed foods. ...I'm constantly dumbfounded at supposedly

intelligent people - doctors that still back the current food pyramid.

---------------------

,

I think people's poisoning themselves relates to the addictive nature of

grains and dairy and preservatives and additives such as MSG.

TV and other forms of electromagnetic bombardment further debilitate people

and make it difficult to think intelligently and discern.

Also, economic hardship and frenetic pace of today's living focus people's

attention away from cooking meals from scratch. Many of the folks on this

list eat healthfully because we had to, recognizing the relationship between

our own health and what we eat.

It takes a strong person not to be swayed by media BS.

Laua,

You're right -- it slipped my mind (probably because they are so much NOT in

my diet). Must be the dirty air that got to me! ;-)

You can use that argument for just about anything ...when will people wake up

about " XXX " ?

Folks do the best they can with what they know and feel comfortable with and

what is accepted around them socially...

Besides , some things that seem blatantly obvious to one is not necessarily so

for another...

WHY would ANYONE want to live anywhere where its not 75-80 degrees at noon, and

65-70 degrees at night ALL year round?

Why would ANYone not do the basic things needed to earn $250k a year part time?

Why would ANYONE consider the present day oil-based economy 'good' ?

The best we can do for others is show by example what benefits there are in

doing things differently.... the way WE are doing them, whether it be nutrition,

living standard, etc.

If we hit upon a good thing , and its visible, others will latch on. Folks DO

try and improve their lot if they can, and its not risky in their eyes to do so.

Risk for many is paying more for food than what they presently can allot...

yea...buy cheap food you will pay the doctor later, but when you are on a

time/money budget, you sometimes only think about getting through the day, not

the consequences 20 years from now. ...and the investment in time to do things

differently than the main stream sometimes is too costly as well.

Help our brethren by DOING the research for them and DOING the lifestyle and

show that it is possible and how it can be affordable. That is the way to help

them do better for themselves, and ultimately us as well, since we are all

interconnected.
