I second that. The blood tests are unreliable whereas the stool test is

probably the most accurate one around. It picks up lots of positives that

the blood tests don't probably because you can have an IgA reaction in the

gut (which is where IgA reactions primarily occur) but not have gliadin

leaking into your blood stream.

Also, alll oats sold in the US are contaminated with gluten, from what I

understand :-(

Now that's ugly. :) Rats. Well, that will have to wait until I have $$

because I don't think my dr can do that and have insurance cover it. Do

you have to have gluten in your system for this to work?

Dr. Fine says no, you don't have to be actively eating gluten. I know

some people who do and they usually are miserable in the attempt.

If it helps you clarify for yourself, the antibodies stay active in our

systems for a looong time. A year after going gf with my kids, I had

them tested for IgG intolerances, gluten being among the list. My

oldest, who had been IgA tested via the stool test, came up *very*

positive for gluten, even though he hadn't eaten any in over a year.

HTH!

Dumb question time: What is a PVC?

Not dumb. PVC = Premature Ventricular Contraction. It's like an extra,

or partial, heartbeat. They're mostly disturbing, annoying and

meaningless, but it does means my body doesn't like something that's

going on when it happens. I tried for years to describe the feeling,

unsuccessfully, to my dr; I finally got a name for it when I was being

carted off by the paramedics during My Ambulance Year

(post-heart-attack) and it happened while I was hooked up to the

portable monitors as I was coming down the stairs with them. It's nice

to have a name for it but it's a mostly harmless event.

Huh. I just figured you were throwing around PVC pipes for some reason.

After you've been subscribed to this list for long enough, you start to take

bizarre behavior for granted.

I suppose I could rig a faux kettlebell contraption with PVC pipes, but

alas, that's not what I was talking about.

And yeah, I'd hate to be coming in on the middle of some of our

conversations!
