Guest guest
Hi everyone- I am making Kombucha for the first time this week. Today is it's 7th day fermenting actually, and everything looked like it was going great up until yesterday, when I looked in the other side of the jar and I found this brownish-grayish " sludge " hanging out by the top of the jar. I took a picture of it: http://www.joaquinlara.com/whatisthis.jpg I don't know what this could be or if it's dangerous. I know molds can be very dangerous, but this doesn't look like a mold to me. It's not fuzzy, it's goopy or sludge-like. Has this happened to anyone else before? I don't know if I need to throw out the tea and starter colony as well as the new colony that's grown. By the way, the kombucha is fermenting in a room by itself, where there aren't any houseplants or any conditions that should cause problems. Please advise. Thanks so much,
