Guest guest
Hello Everyone: This group was recommended to me by one of my fellow E-groupers from the Raw Dairy group. I have a Miniature Jersey cow that is due in 13 days, but looks like she's going to pop any minute. Since I started raising cattle in 1997, I have been drinking raw milk, making kefir, yogurt, buttermilk, some hard cheeses and all the other goodies that you can produce from Jersey milk. I have a cow share program because I can't possibly use 28 gallons of milk a week and I still have plenty to make what I want. I've been selling eggs for years from my free range chickens, but have recently decided to sell off most of my younger birds as the cost of feed has gone up so much, I'm just constantly losing money and can't sell my eggs for $3 a doz. because no one would buy them. I grow my own veggies and fruits and have been trying to improve this land since I moved here in 1996. I've planted cherry, plum, plumcot, nectarine, peach, apples of all sorts, pears, Japanese Pears and God only knows what other trees, all fruiting. I grow tomatoes of course in the summer along with mellons and winter squash as well as other veggies, grapes, berries and whatever else I can grow to eat. I also planted a few currant plants and this year my goumis are actually developing fruit. I've had to take out my Medlar tree because all this rain has toppled it. I've put it into a big planter with the hope of finding it a good home with someone else. I'm putting an oak in that spot. The ground here is really lousy as the people before me had several burn holes where they put everything from nail polish bottles to car parts and chemical bottles, plastics and you name it, it's been in the ground. I don't understand how people can knowingly destroy the earth, but that's what I've had to contend with for almost 10 years. No matter where I dig, there's glass. Everytime I think the garden has been tilled and all the glass is gone, there's more. I try not to use pesticides, but the herbicides are necessary as the weeds just take over if they aren't sprayed. When I moved here the place was boob high in weeds from front to back and I've been fighting them ever since. I only use DE on my edibles and organic stuff for the lawns. Anyway, hope I can learn something here. Thanks for allowing me to join. K.C. Tinybabe Miniature Cattle & K.C.'s Farm & Garden Emmett, Idaho tinybabe2@...
