Guest guest
Funny thing. I see people asking what it would be like if the Listeriosis were caused by raw milk. Actually there is no need to wonder the blame will eventually be placed on raw milk. Note the quote from a MA Health Official. " De said the Massachusetts outbreak is believed to be just the third ever in pasteurized milk in the United States. Listeria is more commonly associated with luncheon meats, soft cheeses and hot dogs. It also can be found in raw, or unpasteurized, milk, he said. " As you read this statement notice he mentions it is the third outbreak from pasteurized milk. I admit I have not extensively researched this but I did a quick search (Minutes) to find an outbreak from raw milk. I found a few real quick but it seems they were from Mexican Cheese made from raw milk. Remember Listeria is introduced to the milk AFTER MILKING. If the Listeria was introduced to the milk by somebody or equipment in the cheese factory then even pasteurized milk cheese would have the same potential for contamination. What really strikes me as odd is why has it taken so long for this story to break? When did health officials isolate the Listeria from the milk? The two deaths were a 75 and a 78 year old men. One died in June and the other in October! I could not find a date for the women who had the miscarriage but am sure I could with a little more searching. Clearly this is not a one time event but an on-going problem. My guess is if it were raw milk there would have been an attack on small dairies back in June.
