Guest guest
All: I recently found out that the fungicide additive in Sherwin paint that was causing the strange, sulfur-like odors in homes was caused by DCOIT (4,5-dichloro-2-n-octyl-4-isothiazoline-3-one) sold under the trade name of Rozone. This fungicide is used widely in marine antifouling paints. The compound supposedly reacts with ozone to produce carbonyl sulfide (COS)and hydrogen sulfide, among others. Are any of you familiar with any recent instances of the odor problem? For those of you interested, Thad Godish has a reference to the problem in a 2002 Notebook article: http://web.bsu.edu/ien/archives/2002/092602.htm C.
