Guest guest
happy to see of you posts coming in again you are of one my brain remembers and so read of you post often. I to like of you thinking and also you words and spelling is of much simalar to my own birth brother. He is of very smart but not good with spelling and what I to like about you is that you do not let of that stop of you from sharing and refecting to many of the person hood you have. Also many forget of the one man who does not post much here but hims name is of loren? he too is of one of the dads here. I to like that some dads who are to me much special dads are of here too. I to hope you have a much good summer with you family and daughter. Also been of wondering where Beths mom has been of not seen of her postings for a time. she gave of me a wonderful hand maked blanket things from her church family and I to love of that and do sleep with it much so. Today have been looking around of the room of me and seeing so many wonderful gifts that others have been to send of me and or give of me over the years and each gift is of ever so special to me. It reminds me that many do like of me and have of care to me and are of in true family to me. today i to did try to do a new things in group and played of the WII game of exercise things and so was of to need to stand up on a things that looks like a weight scale. so for me had to move of my body in ways to shift of my weight to the scale things and cause the ball on the TV screen to move so instead of to use of hands like most games for play station things but in the WII one can use of their feet. so for me found could use of my feet and maybe have good feet/eye coordination but not good hand /eye coordinations LOL. but I to did move several marbles through a labrynith sort of maze. And was so happy that was able to do that and did not know had any ability to do such a task as that. My therapist shared no one in all of the groups nor even hims own being was able to do it as effectively as I to did for my first time to do it. And my anxiety was so high and was fearful everyone would be to see that for me am of a baby in things and was fearful if could not do it would cry of tears to it but did be of brave to try of it and found could do it and liked of it. so when overly stressed found if pressured it causes almost an advanced skill that is of hidden in forced out. I to have found this to be of true over and over for me and lack why. But have found this with some kids of autism who are of non verbal if fearful or have advanced fears or anxeity or demands of expectations they will speak or shout out some words , but this onloy happens if the above factors is of there . But for me instead of words out comes this skil that for the most part cant do if the factors of stress are of not there. I to wonder if others see of this in their kids or if any one the spectrum find this to be of true for them too? Sondra

Guest guest
Sondra, That's great that you took that risk and played the Wii Game! And it sounds like you really excelled with it too! My own daughter is waiting to get a Wii. She's saved up her money (well I should say she's not spent it yet, cause it all came at once so she's not had to save it up) and wants to get a Wii, we've been trying to find a decent deal on one (happens from time to time on CraigsList) Hope you continue to have good successes like that one! Guest guest
Okay - I have been lurking for a couple weeks now and I have to ask about gutter boy and say YEAH!!! to Sondra on the Wii fit game - I know exactly what you mean about being anxious about getting on the thing that looks like a scale!!! Anything that finds out how much I weigh is NOT something I want to volunarily step on... I have tried it a few times and really like it. I teach middle school children (2 girls and 3 boys in my self- contained class and two who are in regular classes with support)with autism spectrum disorders and was thinking of getting a Wii fit to use with them. My students all have proprioception issues, balance and tone issues... I don't want to stress them or have them be upset about using it, though. What is the best way do you think, to introduce them to using it? I love this group and hope you don't mind me being here, since I technically don't HAVE a girl with autism, but I do love my students and one I have been with for 4 years, so she is like a daughter to me. I will always be happy to help with school related questions and perhaps can give an isight from that persepctive. I am a dedicated and caring teacher who tries always to do all I can to help my students. Also, Sondra - do you have a book of poetry? I have a wonderful book of poetry written by a woman named Sondra, and a DVD also. I find them very inspiring and helpful. Belle in WV > > > In a message dated 6/23/08 7:31:44 P.M. Guest guest
theresa thanks as for in the real of life do not feel very coordinated and the kids of me often say mom quit crashing into me as when I to walk oftrn find self not so aware of others and self and often step on their shoes or feet or crash right into them of as they say gut them off or crash into the sides of them. I to not be of aware of self too much in the walking with others because to me find self focusing more on just the navigating of self around the environment. Aimee yelled of me yesterday and says to me " Mom Look down and watch where you feet is, so you will quit stepping on me " and it maked me wonder if this is of why the family always shouted to me to watch where I was to be walking and for me took it literally and did for years never looking up but always watching me feet navigate around. then they complained of my lack of eye contact to them, they not aware that can be of a strong trait for some on the spectrum, and is of ture issues for me unless you are of in constant in my world as like childrens of me or family people like of that. But anyways I to wonder if that did be to impact more so my lack of eye contact because of all the years of looking at my feet. So anyways back to my topic , that is of why was so impressed that was able to coordinate so well in that game as it was of a hard one but for me it appeared of easy and the odd was my body movments were of so subtle it was of hard to see of me even moving, but uncontiously was able to line all 3 of the balls in sync with each other and then dropped them one at a time into the hole instead of moving one to the hole and then another my brain was moving all of the balls in sync as one. that is of why my therapist and others were of happy of my ability to do such a task as that. I to liked that they could see of me as being able and not as a baby as most think of me when not able to do things or communicate effectively and so then the rages come to self or tears. I to never want of my group members to see of this in me and so for that I to be of fearful to try of things for fear. I to be of to think for self too would like to some day get of a WII game things for self to try to learn to play. some of the games are of fun and ones for me I can be to do where cant do hand held controllers because my brain cannot cordinate of the hands and eyes and processing at the same time. I to love to watch others play of the games though and get real stimmy on the movements and sounds of some like mario brothers games of the past. I to not be of able to do any of the role playing games or games that are based of interacting and or retaining clues or parts of important things to use for later and cant process how to make of my person run , jump or move well. Guest guest
Belle yes this is of true I to be of a writer and speaker on a variety of topics and do much well in that realm of hte life of me, it is of outside that realm that I to struggle more. You asked about this list and I to not be of the owner of it but I to know several here are of just professionals and not parents and so I to feel for that they are of welcomed here. I to also have a list I to own and run it is of called Connecting2worlds and it is of a list for professionals who work in the field of autism and many there are in education and so if you want of to join of it feel happy to do that. the other members are of adults on the spectrum and so we teach from our perspectives of how autism AFFECTS and GIFTS us, but it is of not set for parenting issues, but if you are of a parent and are of also a professional who works in some capcity outside of being a parent in the field of autism , such as para professionals , eduation, psychology, pschiatry, therapist such as ABA, RDI and thing of that. ALL members are of screened to assure they meet the criteria. about the WII fit that is of why my therapist to got of the game , it is of not only a social game, it can help work on anxity, motor planning , coordinations, movments which many with autism struggle with. It will be of a much good investment since many of us with spectrum have movement issues and things of that. for me have such severe anxity to be of to have all attention focused to me and or others watching or looking at me and fearful of not being able to do the expected things and then for me fearful will rage at self and or have of a meltdown of tears and or other behaviors. Lately more fearful than ever of that because of the internal agitations been of feeling. tomorrow I to have to have of much of a yucky test and be of to have of much blod taken out to see if I to be of developing type 2 diabetes which is of a strong genetic things in my birth family members of both mother and father sides of hte family of me. I to see you live if WV I was to be of in Kentucky a few weeks back and did be to speak there for 3 hours and did find the people much nice and receptive to my words. Guest guest
Since the Wii Fit is a game that everyone can take turns on, maybe having some typical kids play on it & the special needs kids can see it being used. Even if seen in passing, the more they see how it's done the less threatening it shuold be & maybe it will spark an interest from them. For Kim, with us playing new music or watching a new program, a new game etc, the more it's a part of her environment, the more exposure she gets, the less anxious she is. Gradual introduction works well for her. Guest guest
Thanks Marie, I will set it up and see how things go. I also want to have some 'typical' peers join us to help teach the kids some of the popular dances - at least ones that have appropriate songs to go with them. My students all enjoy music, so I thought this would be a fun way to have them get some social time, so maybe these could link together somehow. Guest guest
I was gonna say the same thing! It's just human nature... My husband and I have always been open about other people who we find attractive, not that we'd actually do anything about it, and realize that sometimes the most attractive people physically are not always that attractive in other ways! A few weeks ago I was on a field trip with my older daughter and hubby (Dallas) had to take to speech and OT, it was the first time for him because he's generally at work, lol. So later when we got home and I asked how it went, he said he guessed ok they didn't say too much to him he figured since he didn't normally take her, then he added that he thought maybe HE needed a little speech therapy LOL I said oh yea? you think so huh? Of course not long before that when we were in the hospital, had one of the most good looking doctors I'd seen in a LONG time... And I'd made a comment one time to try to lighten the mood. When your secure in your relationship, a little looking never hurt, but if your not, then it will lead to trouble... > > > In a message dated 6/25/08 12:53:24 A.M.
