This does make sense conceptually. However a looong time ago, the first

alternative doctor I consulted did a test that indicated that my stomach

emptied extremely rapidly. And that certainly correlates with the way

it feels to me. So I wonder if those capsules would be wooshed out of

my stomach before the meal arrived! Right now I am focusing on really

trying to chew thoroughly...beyond thoroughly , really paying attention

to the whole process.. and taking my time eating. It is amazing how

difficult that is for me to do on a regular basis. I tend to inhale my

meals. And to me this indicates that it is probably very necessary for

me. I have tried this periodically then just gave up. But I am coming

to the conclusion that no pills will help if I can't at least do this

for myself. i used up my Houston enzymes anyway. But after I get good

at eating more slowly I may try the enzymes again and will give this

trick a try. Thanks.

If you want to dissolve your teeth and give yourself esophageal

cancer, by all means, drink your HCl! Otherwise, it's definitely

best to stick with capsules, as you've already discovered. The

bizarre thing is that you can actually _buy_ HCl for digestion in

liquid form! It's hard to find and it was used more in the past, but

I believe it's still available.

What brand are you using that's in a vegicap? NOW's HCl/pepsin, for

all its drawbacks, is at least in a gelcap. Unfortunately, while I

can find bulk betaine HCl, I can't find bulk real pepsin, not that

I'd relish the prospect of getting HCl and pepsin dust all over the

place while trying to cap them without permanently destroying my lungs.

BTW, in the " Vengeance for 'Candid-uh' Department " , guess how

" betaine " turns out to be pronounced.

Have your guess ready yet?

Now?

OK, here you go: BEET-uh-een.

From now on I'm just saying " HCl " .

Well, FWIW, I've been mixing powdered HCl (from an emptied capsule) into my

dogs' food for about 5 years now. They are both 15 and no signs of

esophageal cancer. But one does have a typically congenital condition called

collapsing trachea, which I can't imagine has anything to do with HCl.

Neither one has good teeth though, but I largely chock that up to the fact

that they dont' get many bones. In any event, it's not like their food stays

in their mouths for more than an instant, so it's not exactly comparable to

humans eating.

Sheesh. You just have to be a harbinger of ridiculous pronunciations.

It's well-documented that reflux over time causes esophageal cancer,

but of course most carcinogenic factors don't cause cancer in 100% of

people (or dogs) exposed to them.
