Guest guest
Hello : By the way, isn't it high time we changed the subject title? We are no longer talking about raw milk and colds. What about " grains " as a new subject title? Or doyou prefer " paleo " ? I mostly agree with you. I would never put grains on an altar, although many, if not all traditional folks have done so. There are a few exceptions, of course. Eskimoes, among others. These peoples were probably mistaken, but their mythologies, folklore and cuisine are so fascinating that you can easily be carried along and end up believing in grains. As a matter of fact, grains can be useful, practical and helpful in a famine and other instances, but should have never been made into something divine. I think water comes first. The digestive system of humans is not really apt to handling grains, although I think sprouted grains and very young grains, still in a " milky " state, are very valuable foods and easier to digest. That is why grains in particular and carbs in general need preparation. I have no doubt we can live without grains, but I would find it a little more difficult to live entirely without carbs. Some people may manage to do that, but they may have to pay a high price for that. Eating grains can be a matter of choice. They are not strictly necessary, but if they are used as a side dish and in the appropriate ways, they can bring a lot of variation, colour, taste to your life. Inferior they may be, but in the absence of other carbs, they will have an appreciable role: helping the assimilation of protein. And, sorry, I would never equate grains and poison, unless you are centrering your diet around them, unless they are too processed, though I can recognize that the threshold for all grains is usually lower than for most other foods. In this light, for modern man anything that is overeaten or overdrunk becomes poison. Even too much water will harm you. This is what I mean when I mention moderation or the middle way. As for paleo, I think it is only good when you don't turn into a new religion, when you allow some room for " cheating " without guilt.
