As a person with milk producing animals I'd be wary about inviting people to watch me milk. Not because of the way I milk but the experiences I've had with past " watchers " . So here's a few helpful hints to those consumers wanting to come watch the milking. 1. Get here on time. It is very annoying to have to stop what I'm doing to go find you when you honk the horn. If you are late I don't want to hear a long story, I'm in a rush to get back to milking as there is likely a goat or cow waiting and eating their way through some expensive feed. 2. If you've never been in my milk room before, please don't try to help. Stand out of the way of animals coming and going. If you offer to help I'll decide if I need the help. 3. Go ahead and bring your children if you like but remember that you are here to watch me milk. I'm not able to watch your children and keep them out of harm's way, you'll have to do that. It's also a good idea to prepare them to talk quietly, especially around the goats. We had two boys come with their parents. The parents left the boys to watch me milk while they wandered around outside. I didn't appreciate two yelling youngsters around the goats. 4. Once we are done milking I have a routine and will have to continue to work, much like if I visit you at your office you must continue to work. If you'd like to hang out, ask. Don't be hurt if I don't have time to spend chatting, this is a job, not a hobby. Sometimes I think I've seen it all and then we have another visitor who tops the list of things that shouldn't have happened.
