Guest guest
Just found out today that a family filed a lawsuit against my kids' school. Here's the story: KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Knox County schools have received a lawsuit from parents who claim their daughter was sexually harassed by another student for months, and nothing was done about it. 6 News spoke with the six-year-old's parents, who only want to use their last name in order to protect their daughter. " The last six months, she's been more to herself, doesn't jump around very much, talks to herself, real moody, bed-wetting and hollering out, " Mr. Ross says. Mrs. Ross adds, " He was poking her in the private area with pencils and touching her in the private area with his hand and he was writing 'I love you' letters all the time. It was just constant.... repetitive... those things over and over and over again. " The couple says nothing was done to protect their daughter. When she told her teacher, she got penalized for " tattle-tailing. " They took it up with the principal at ***** and even the Knox County School superintendent. The Ross' say they offered their daughter a one-year school transfer, but couldn't guarantee anything else. They think the boy may have had a three-day suspension. " They did not act appropriately at all. They are not in a field that they should be in because they cannot protect children, " Mrs. Ross says. For now, their daughter is out of school and getting counseling. " I just want her to be normal again, " Mrs. Ross says. " I just want her to live a normal life, but I don't know if that's ever going to happen again. " Knox County school officials say they can't comment on any ongoing legal matters. They have 20 days to answer to the lawsuit that was filed Tuesday morning. It asks for $100,000 in compensatory damages, $1,000,000 in punitive damages and lawyers' fees. *****end of story***** Okay, what do I do? How do I make sure Allie is safe? It's very possible this kid is in class with her. The school certainly won't say a word one way or the other. I'm trying to get into contact with the parents to find out more. I would imagine this little boy has been exposed to sexual content which is not his fault, but at the end of the day I have to focus on keeping my daughter safe, period. Now I wonder if Allie has experienced anything from him yet. I remember one little boy in kindergarten was always touching her and telling her that she was so beautiful & he was in love with her. Now I'm paranoid about everything. Any thoughts? TIA, Debi
