Guest guest
Hi, I have 7 and my oldest has autism. She is the only one who received her shots when they were due!! Other then that I pretty much did the same thing. I breastfed all of them, started solids at the same age, and pretty much did the same thing except the immunizations at an early age. Bridget Buono Just Curious I am just curious to see how many of you have kids with autism and NT kids? What are your theories if you did the same things with all the kids? I have four, and wonder why my first has the issues and the rest are fine when I did the same thing to all four. Well, not exactly....my last two didn't get their shots yet. Thanks, Rebekah
Guest guest
I have four. My oldest is 19 and diagnosed ADHD, but we're thinking it may have been a misdiagnosis of Aspergers. My next is 11 NT, Melody is 3 and Autistic, and Harmony is 2 and NT. Harmony is the only one we did things differently with. We spaced out her shots a week apart instead of mixing them all up. Guest guest
I have 5 kids including 2 sets of fraternal twins one out of each set is autistic and a NT 3 yr old. The twins were from fertility treatments and the singleton was a spontaneous surprise. Just Curious I am just curious to see how many of you have kids with autism and NT kids? Guest guest
My first is completely NT, my middle has autism, my youngest is NT, but with some scattering of possible " shadow syndrome. " She is very social & outgoing but did have some language delay, some lack of eye contact (might consider her shy) and some " bratty " tendancies as my oldest calls it, difficulty in not getting her way, etc. I do think I've spoiled her, so I don't know how much is that vs a possible underlying issue. My first was completely immunized. Second regressed at 9 mos with hep B received while having chicken pox. My third has never been immunized. I fully feel if Dinah (youngest) had got shots she would have autism. No proof, but a definite mamma gut on that. I also think Allie is probably a mito kid, she's been sickly most of her life, we're still testing. She has some abnormal results, we're currently awaiting Dr. Geier's orders for a TON of tests. I don't know if it was the chicken pox AND the hep B together, if the chicken pox had damaged her immune system & then the shot sent her over the edge, if it was all the mercury she got, etc. I also have metal amalgams, about 4-5, and have wondered if that had a role. I also lost a lot of weight just before getting preg with Allie (60lbs) and have wondered if fat-soluable toxins were circulating in my body that may have contributed. I also wonder if quitting smoking while pregnant may have done something negative. I know that sounds odd, but the truth is I sneeked cigarettes throughout my pregnancy with my oldest, then sneeked them during part of my pregnancy with Allie, then quit. I've wondered if since nicotinic receptors effect the nervous system if perhaps I put her through some sort of withdrawl that may have harmed her. I know, probably not, but these are the things I ponder. I never smoked again after that. If I ever did have any more kids, I would definitely not immunize unless I felt conviction to do otherwise. With Dinah I breastfeed until 27 months, I would definitely extend breastfeed with any others. My oldest was nursed 5 mos and Allie 9 mos, she self-weaned after the shot. Guest guest
The smoking thing is interesting. I smoked with my oldest in the beginning of the pregnancy and it made me sick, so I stopped. He's ADHD (possibly misdiagnosed Aspergers) I wasn't smoking when I got pregnant with my second, and he's NT. I was smoking when I got pregnant with my third, and quit when I found out I was pregnant. She's Autistic. I wasn't smoking when I got pregnant with my fourth, and she's NT. My mother smoked all throughout her pregnancy with me, and I have some Autistic/Aspergers tendencies. And of course, I now suffer from asthma. My parents both smoked until I was an adult, in the car, with the windows rolled up. I never understood how they could do that. Even as a smoker (when I did smoke) I could never smoke in the closed up car. Interesting. Guest guest
That is interesting. I agree with you, when I was smoking 1 1/2 pks/day the windows were down. Debi
Guest guest
Rebekah, My NT son came first and I was commuting about an hour on the PA turnpike everyday to my classroom in NE Philly up until a few days before he was born. When I planned to have my daughter, who has autism, I was home with my son and really tried to watch what I ate and drank, etc. So go figure! _____ From: Autism_in_Girls [mailto:Autism_in_Girls ] On Behalf Of Rebekah Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 11:31 AM To: Autism_in_Girls Subject: Just Curious I am just curious to see how many of you have kids with autism and NT kids? Guest guest
I have 3 kids, a 26yo son with a different dad, who has very mild ADHD which he got after he was 3 when he had a ton of ear infections & antibiotics. My middle daughter is NT, had no ear infections, got all hr shots. My youngest has autism, had tons of ear infections as an infant, was about 5 mos delayed overall, even before noticing the no receptive language. For my kids it seems like it was the ear infections, antibiotics & vaccines. Marie A. > I am just curious to see how many of you have kids with autism and NT > kids? Guest guest
Interesting...my second born son was constantly fighting ear infections and was on every antibiotic known to man. He is NT.... My Melody (Autistic) was perfectly " normal " and had no problems until around 13 months of age when she lost her words and started her stimming, and this was shortly after her vaccinations.
