There is another brand ... it costs even more but it is magical for back problems and often paid for by L & I. It's called Body Built. The Neutral Posture chair looks good too. Sitting on a ball for awhile really DOES help too. I can't do it all day because it really gives your back a workout! But it is fun. They now have a chair with a ball! http://www.healiohealth.com/tek9.asp?pg=products & specific=jomqdre8 But really, you just have to go SIT in some and try them out! Guest guest
Hello , In addition to a comfortable chair I highly recommend the book " Pain Free " by Pete Egoscue. It teaches a set of exercises/stretches that pretty much can solve the cause of just about any joint pain. It has cured my back and shoulder pain and almost all my knee pain. I took it to the next level and paid for a few sessions with an Egoscue therapist to diagnose the source of my problems and customize a program for me. It is a little tougher to do it yourself from the book and I had been in pain for a while and wanted to make sure I got the best results possible. They have clinics all over the country. A little expensive but if you can get rid of the pain at the source I am sure it's worth it. check out www.egoscue.com for more info. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi , i can't help you out in the chair dept. but as someone who has had back pain off and on for the last 30 or so years... i think back pain differs as to its origins and etc. but in my case, i can stay pain free if i exercise my abs, either situps every other day, or Pilates, which is ab-strengthening. if you get your abs in shape, they will support your back and help keep you pain free, depending on what your problem is, and then hopefully the chair won't an issue, but i don't know. laura > Hi all; > > I have a desk job, sitting by a computer all day and I have been > developing chronic back pain. > > Has anyone tried the supremely expensive Aeron chair? Guest guest
I have had lower back problems my whole adult life, often it was disabling. A week after i got married the pain diminished by about 95%, which was damn weird but seriously, poof, gone just like that. So i'm wondering if i was holding pent-up insecurity or whatever there that having a (stable) partner fixed. My point being, it is possible for our body to hold emotional pain in a physical way. Also, i can't rah-rah about Pilates enough. I just started classes a couple of months ago and am blown away by the effect it is having on my torso/back. I'm also blown away by how weak my core is, compared to my limbs, which are pretty strong. I also wonder about what having " poor core strength " means metaphorically! My partner works for the SFSU Foundation Ergonomics and Accessible Technology group in San Francisco. Their office is filled with all the different ergonomic chairs and her boss teaches the class on how to fit them. The Back Store in Emeryville will also help you fit one (but they are really, really expensive there - much better to fit one someplace and then order it online from the manufacturer, I've been told). If you are not in the SF Bay Area, check with your local University or Disability office. They can direct you if not help directly.
